Matthew 9:35-38 NCV
Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Good News about the kingdom, and healing all kinds of diseases and sicknesses. When he saw the crowds, he felt sorry (compassion) for them because they were hurting and helpless, like a sheep without a shepherd. Jesus said to his followers, “There are many people to harvest but only a few workers to help harvest them. Pray to the Lord, who owns the harvest, that he will send more workers to gather his harvest.”
Pray... that He will send more workers.
This is an illustration of a farmer sends workers to harvest the grain, Jesus sends his followers to bring people to God. Jesus Himself needs workers to help him in His kingdom. The kind of workers Jesus desires in His kingdom are those who teach and preach the gospel, heal the sick and cast out unclean spirits.
Jesus encourages all believers to be constantly aware that the lost have an invaluable everlasting soul and must spend eternity in heaven or in hell, and that many of them can be saved if only someone presents the gospel to them. So it is an honor for us that Jesus calls us to pray for more laborers into His harvest [Matt.9:38]. God wants our prayers and He will hear it. So let us pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, we pray that you will reach the hearts of many who are called to work for you. I ask you to give the strength to students who are taking the classes from Ed Graham, the teacher who traveled around the U.S.A. and the students felt the call to become the workers in Your kingdom. I pray for their strength that they may be able to study Your Word and be prepared to talk to the people of their language and help them to know more about Christ and that He is knocking in their hearts to open up to Him. Thank you Lord for those people who are willing to work for you in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!
