They were astonished

Matthew 7:28-29 “And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes” (KJV).

Luke 4:32, 36 “And they were astonished at his doctrine for his (Jesus) word was with power. And they were all amazed, and spoke among themselves, saying, “What a word is this! For with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out” (KJV).

People asked question: Where did Jesus get His authority from? Jesus said that God was His teacher and God, the Father was the One who authorized Jesus and gave His Son the power to do the work of miracles and healings (John 7:14-24).

The word, “astonish” means to strike with sudden wonder or surprise and also the word, “amazed” means to surprise or astonish greatly and fill with wonder. Both words are commonly used in the Bible so it is important to know them well. It inspires me to realize that people have never seen anyone like Christ had done, miracles, healings and cast out unclean spirits. It is like God, the Father through His Son, likes to surprise His own people. The Holy Spirit inspires me with this song. It is a very old song.

O, how I love Him, how I adore Him,
My Breath, my Sunshine, My all in all,
The great Creator became my Savior,
And all God’s fullness dwelleth in Him (Jesus).
(Author unknown)

So trust God and you never know what surprises He will bring to you!

The Jews were Amazed

John 7:15 ncv "The Jews were amazed and said,
“This man has never studied in school. How
did He learn so much?"

There’s one translation that I like: “How can
He know so much when He’s never been to our
schools—-Tay.” What school? If a person wants
to become a Rabbi, a man usually goes to school
to be trained. What were the Jews amazed about
Jesus? His style of teachings were so different
from them.

What was Jesus’ answered? John 7:16-17 ncv “The
things I teach are not my own, but they come from
Him (God) who sent Me. If people choose to do what
God wants, they will know that My teaching comes
from God and not from Me.” Doesn’t this make you
want more of Jesus? The old song came back to me.

Song: I Want More of Jesus
I want more of Jesus, more and more and more.
I want more of Jesus than I ever had before;
I want more of His great love, so rich, so full and free.
I want more of Jesus, so I’ll give Him more of Me.

May the Lord bless you!

Jesus' Poem to Me

When I woke up this morning Jesus sang to me the
poem that I have written in April 1982. The poem
was Jesus' love to me and now I pass it on to you.

"I Love You Truly"

I love you truly 'Cause you are Mine
I love you truly; you're My sunshine.

I love you truly though when things goes wrong.
I love you truly for I am very strong.

I love you truly; I am on your side.
I love you truly; there's nothing to hide.

I love you truly, day after day.
I love you truly in every way.

I love you truly, very truly, dear.
I love you truly and I am very near.

I love you truly because I really do.
Won't you love Me as much as I love you?

May God bless you today!

He Is Able Part 2

4:00 a.m. When I read this again and this time I sang:
"He is able to deliver me. He able to deliver me.
Even tho trouble much, I go to Him for rest.
My God is able to deliver me."
I felt the power of God! So I pray you would too!

Psalm 50:15a
"Call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee ..."

When can we call upon our Lord God? In the day of trouble! What kind of trouble that would be? "In the day of distress--Sprl."

What is trouble? Anything that become disturbed towards us. What happen when He does delivered us from trouble? The Bible said, "you shall glorify Me."

One translation I like on Psalm 50:15b ". . . I will deliver thee that thou mayest glorify Me"--Rhm. It is awesome that God's deliverance in our day of trouble actually glorified Him. Why? Because the devil was defeated and the victory was God's. That made Him a happy God. That's what glorified is, make God happy. So let's get delivered from anything! So our God can be glorified!!!

Song: He Is Able to Deliver Thee
He is a ... ble to deliver thee,
He is a ... ble to deliver thee,
Though by sin oppressed,
Go to Him for rest;
"Our God is able to deliver thee."

Mercy of the Lord

Bread Box Psalm 89:1 kjv
"I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.

Psal 101:1 kjv
"I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O Lord, will I sing."

Song that I remember:
I will sing of the mercy of the Lord forever.
I will sing, . . . I will sing, . . .
I will sing of the mercy of the Lord forever.
I will sing of the mercy of the Lord . . .
With my mouth . . . will I make known,
With my mouth . . . will I make known.
Thy faithfulness, Thy faithfulness to all
generations. (Repeat and author unknown)

Dorothy: This early morning I hinted to the Holy Spirit "no bread box for this morning." Then suddenly Holy Spirit sang to me, "I will sing of the mercy of the Lord . ." And my mouth fell open, awesome! So I went to my pager and typed the song what I remembered. Also the technology Bible helped me found Psalm 89:1. Wow! I felt rich! His mercy endureth forever. I love Him.

Confession: This morning, I was in no mood for studies and that's why I gave a 'hint' to Holy Spirit, no bread box. But God knew my heart and He had mercy on me. He helped me with song of mercy and verse to come with it. Ohhh, I love You Holy Spirit for help!

Besides, I was getting ready for Wisconsin Deaf Women Retreat this weekend. I join with 3 ladies and Audrey drives the Ford Escape SUV 2009 and it is near lunch for break time. So trust the marvelous mercy of the Lord! Awesome God who knew how to help me in a very simple way today! I love His mercy! We all need it!

All Your Anxiety

1 Peter 5:7 niv "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." Ps. 94:19 "When anxiety was great within me, your (God's) consolation (comfort) brought joy to my soul."

KJV says in Ps. 94:19 "In the multitude of my thoughts within me ...." This means do you have many things going on your mind? NIV gave a good meaning: "When anxiety was great within me ...."

The word anxiety means fear, nervousness about what might happen and fearful concern or interest like anxiety to succeed. (From technology dictionary 'Merriam-Webster) One example from "The Bible from 26 Translation" on 1 Peter 5:7a.
"Casting the whole of your care--all your anxiety, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all --on HIM--Amplified."

I felt a sudden urge to pray: Father in heaven, You are speaking to our heart about anxiety this morning. Your Word reminds us to take our anxiety to You and talk to You about it. It does feel good to share it with You so that You could comfort us. Amazing grace that You are concern about us and want us to take all our anxiety because You love us. Thank You Father for being so caring through Your Word in Jesus' name. Amen. So cast all your cares on Him for He cares about you!

Dorothy: I had this unusual song saved. This song got me into research on "anxiety" and I am so blessed with technology bible and dictionary.

Song: All Your Anxiety
1. Is there a heart over-bound by sorrow?
Is there a life weighted down by care?
Come to the cross-each burden bearing,
All your anxiety-leave it there.
Chorus:
All your anxiety all your care,
Bring to the mercy seat-leave it there;
Never a burden He cannot bear,
Never a friend like Je-sus!

Hold On My Child

From Linda Martin's memory of song:

HOLD ON MY CHILD
(Author unknown)

Have you knelt beside the rubble of a weary aching heart,
When the things you gave your life to fell apart?
You're not the first to be acquainted with sorrow, grief
And pain, But the master promised sunshine after rain.

Hold on my child joy cometh in the morning,
Weeping endureth only for the night,
Hold on my child joy cometh in the morning,
The darkest hour means dawn is just in sight.

Dorothy: Devotion on "The God of All Comfort"
II Corinthians 1:3-7 (NIV)
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all COMFORT, v4. who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can COMFORT those in any trouble with the COMFORT we ourselves have received from God. v5. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our COMFORT overflows. v6. If we are distressed, it is for your COMFORT and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your COMFORT, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. v7. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings so also you share in our COMFORT."

Special prayer of comfort for Barb Reu's of Chicago, IL's mother, Ruth Koras passed away Tues morning (Oct 19). Barb Reu is well-known for her activity in Women's Retreat of Wisconsin. Linda Martin's memory song, "Hold On My Child" I had saved for the right time. I find the word "comfort" from niv technology bible very impressive so I want to share this with you. May the Lord comforts Barb Reu for the loss of her mother.

Trust God of all comfort for healing power in Jesus' name!

Slow to Anger

Proverbs 16:32
"He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty."
NCV: "Patience is better than strength . . ."

Have you ever been angry at anything? Is angry a normal thing to do? Former Pres. Eisenhower once thought as a boy being angry a lots of time was to fistfights. How did Ike solved his angry outburst? His mother quoted Proverbs 16:32 on him. When Ike became older and famous he remembered this verse and he was able to control his anger and work very well with people.

Paul gave advice on how to control the anger. Eph. 4:26-27 (ncv). "When you are angry, do not sin, and be sure to stop being angry before the end of the day. Do not give the devil a way to defeat you."

At work, l often picked up tiny expired date labels that stick to the floor. The broom cannot pick the labels because it has to be peeled off by hands. When I saw a guy threw expired dated labels on the floor. I yelled "Hey, quit that! Put it in the trash, not on the floor." I grudged to myself.

After I read the devotion, I realized God was speaking to me about anger. Eph. 4:31-32. "Do not be bitter or angry or mad. Never shout angrily or say things to hurt others. Never do anything evil. Be kind and loving to each other, and forgive each other just as God forgave you in Christ."

Prayer: Thank You Father that You care how I think and correct me through the Word of God. Holy Spirit, remind me to speak kindly and gently toward others in Jesus' name I pray. Amen!

Be kind to someone today!

A New Song

Psalm 40:3 ". . . He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord."

New song:
Praise the Lord! . . .
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord!
Love His holy name . . . .
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord! . . .
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord!
He's always the same . . . .
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord! . . .
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord!
Let His love flow . . . .
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord! . . .
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord!
Let His love show . . . .
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord!

Psalm 96:1 "O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. Sing unto the LORD, bless His name; show forth His salvation from day to day."

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, sweet Holy Spirit for spontaneous new song. You put a new spirit within us through the blood of Jesus Christ, Your Son. Lord, bless this person who open this Bread Box and anoint this person with the "oil" of Holy Spirit. Touch the body to be healed in Jesus' name. Touch their friends' need and received answers to prayer through the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ! For the Lord is delighted to bless all of us in Jesus' precious name. Amen!

May the Lord bless you!

Wonderful Part 2

Theme: Who is like Thee, O LORD?
Exodus 15:11 kjv Who is like unto Thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing WONDERS?

Psalm 40:5a kjv "Many, O Lord my God, are Thy WONDERFUL works which Thou hast done . . ." NCV: "Lord my God, You have done many MIRACLES. Your plans for us are many. If I tried to tell them all, there would be too many to count."

Dorothy: I add the verses because Bev Hull was impressed with more meaning with the word "wonderful." Here is Bev Hull of Minnesota's favorite song.

Aw! Thank you Holy Spirit. Thank you for the songs, verse and the explanation of "wonderful". Now I can add this song, Wonderful Savior. I tend to sing " God is so Wonderful" here is:

God is so wonderful- I can't explain,
But I can say, Glory Hallelujah,
Praise His Holy Name!

It's wonderful because He saved me.
It's wonderful that He forgave me.
It's wonderful, wonderful, so very wonderful.
Wonderful that He is mine.

Now remember this is English. I change to ASL

God is so wonderful- I can't explain,
But I can sign, " Glory Hallelujah"
Wonderful, Why? Because He saved me,
Wonderful, Why? He forgave me.
Wonderful, Wonderful, so very Wonderful,
Wonderful, Why? He is mine
Where? In my heart, He's minnnnnne.

I use facial and upper shoulder expression

Sister in Christ Love,
Pastor Bev Hull

Prayer from Dorothy: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being so wonderful, so interesting, so fascinating, so delightful, so spectacular, so astonishing, so remarkable, and so amazing to all of us. We trust You Abba Father in Jesus' name. Amen!

Wonderful Part 1

Chorus: Wonderful Savior
Wonderful Savior, wonderful Savior,
Thou art so near, so precious to me;
Wonderful Savior, wonderful Savior,
My heart is filled with praises to Thee.
(J. M. Harris, Sing His Praise)

I searched the word, "wonderful" from the technology Bible (only few) and discovered something interesting. Why was He called, "Wonderful?" Matthew 21:15 ". . . priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he (Jesus) did . . ." Isaiah 9:6 ". . . His name shall be called Wonderful . . ."

If I ask someone to explain the meaning of the word 'wonderful,' some might say, "awesome or great." I used 'Scholastic Children Dictionary' and find it much more helpful in meaning. The more we know the meaning of the word, "wonderful," the more we would be able to appreciate its outcome or result of the song, "Wonderful Savior."

Wonderful=1. causing wonder (the word wonders are used a lot in the Bible); remarkable, amazing, or impressive. 2. Very good; excellent.

Synonyms: wonderful
Wonderful originally described something that caused someone to be filled with awe or wonder. Now it also refers to anything that is unusually good: That was a wonderful party. Tony is a wonderful human being.

Interesting describes something that capture someone's attention like priests and scribes were capture by interesting things Jesus had done.

Fascinating describes something so interesting that you want to know more about it.

Delightful means highly pleasing: My friend Jan has a delightful personality.

Spectacular means dramatic and sensational: After the ball game we watched a spectacular fireworks display.

Astonishing describes something that causes great wonder or surprise.

Now we sing:
Wonderful Savior, wonderful Savior,
Thou art so near, so precious to me;
Wonderful Savior, wonderful Savior,
My heart is filled with praises to Thee.
(J. M. Harris, Sing His Praise)

Isn't He wonderful?

Bring Glory

Song: Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit, you’re a comfort to me,
Holy Spirit, you’re a comfort to me,
You lead me, you guide me,
In danger you hide me.
Holy Spirit, you’re a comfort to me.
(Inspiring Choruses)

John 16:14 niv Jesus said:
“He (the Holy Spirit) will bring glory to me
(Jesus) by taking from what is mine and making
it known to you.”

Holy Spirit works inside of us, to awaken us,
and to be aware of Jesus’ presence. Holy Spirit
draws our hearts toward Jesus in faith, love,
obedience, communion, worship, and praise.
Holy Spirit is our Comforter. Holy Spirit
will remind us of Jesus’ Word (14:26; 16:7).

Prayer: Thank You Jesus for sending us Holy
Spirit who comfort our hearts in time of needs.
Thank You for Holy Spirit who keeps us in touch
with You and Your Words of Wisdom and encouragement.
Bless them, strengthen them and heal them in Jesus'

Keep trusting God's promises endure forever,

Knew Not the Lord

Proverbs 29:18a NLT “When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild, But whoever obeys the law is joyful.”

This morning Oct. 7th, the thought came to me, “knew not the Lord.” I remembered this famous topic from the book of Judges. Judges 2:10-11 “And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which “knew not the LORD,” nor yet the works which HE had done for Israel. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim: And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.”

Joshua had just died and all that generation came to show respect to Joshua. Then there arose another generation . . . which knew not the Lord. What caused them not to know the Lord? The new generation drifted away from the righteous commitment of their fathers and departed from a personal relation with the Lord. This led to them to become involved surrounding the people whose lifestyle and culture were different from Israel. Naturally, this led them away from the Lord. As a result, God allowed the enemies to oppress them until they cried out to the Lord for help and deliverance came.

In O.T. Scripture tells us that often God was angry when the people of Israel had forgotten God. May the Lord God forgives us if and when we don’t realized how important it is to keep in touch with our heavenly Father, our Lord Jesus Christ and our precious Holy Spirit and the Word of God daily. So I pray that we all stay close to Him!

Song Collection: I Believe God.
I believe God, I believe God,
Ask what ye will and it shall be done.
Trust and obey, believe Him and say,
I believe, I believe God.

If you need salvation now
or the Holy Ghost pow'r,
Just trust and obey, believe and say,
I believe, I believe God. (Inspiring Choruses)

Most Blessed

Proverbs 29:18 Message
“If people can’t see what GOD is doing, they stumble all over themselves; but when they attend (pay attention) to what HE reveals, they are most blessed.”

This reminds me of Moses, the prophet who stayed in Mount Sinai for 40 days. What did the people do? They were impatient. They did not want to wait for Moses. When Moses was not there as a prophet of God to guide them, they build an idol, a golden calf to worship to. What cause the people do this? NIrV quote, “Where there is no message from GOD, the people don’t control themselves . . .”

I noticed some movies, and programs showing more and more people don’t control themselves. Especially watching “Cops Program” how people are often out of control, it takes higher authority to control them. CEV says “Without guidance from GOD, law and order disappear. . .”

What does that apply to us? This is a simple reminder how important it is to “pay attention to what HE reveals and we will be most blessed.”

So put God"s Word first in the morning to make your day!

Children Song: Read Your Bible
Read your Bible and pray every day,
Pray every day, pray every day.
Read your Bible and pray every day,
if you want to grow, if you want to grow.
Read your Bible and pray every day
if you want to grow . . .

Send the Light

Remember Cow's Cud from "Keep Muttering"? (Sept 22) We continue
with this verse until we digest well this week. Smile?

Proverbs 29:18 NKJV + NIV are the same.
"Where there is no revelation, the people cast off
restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the laws.

Bill Persall's Comment:
If there is no revelation from the Lord, then people would scatter
or get lost. How shall they hear the Gospel without a preacher?
That is the idea.

We need revelation, direction or instructioin from the Lord in order
to have eternal life, to follow God's ways, to have laws in our heart,
etc. No divine vision or revelation will bring chaos (great confusion;
complete disorder).

Dorothy: I remember this song from Christ's Ambassador in 1950's.
Today we called it "Youth Ministry."

Chorus: Send the Light!
Send the light, . . . the blessed gospel light,
Let it shine . . . from shore to shore!
Send the light, . . . and let its radiant beams
Light the world . . . forever more. . . .
(Charles Hutchinson Gabriel, Sing His Praise)

The Kid's Success

Proverbs 29:18 NCV
"Where there is no word from God, people are uncontrolled, but those who obey what they have been taught are happy."

One little colored boy came to my Sunday School class and I began with a weekly memorize verse with reward. They were to have their parents to work with them on John 3:16 at home during the week. The following Sunday morning class, His older brother skillfully quoted John 3:16. The little boy bowed down his head and said, "My mom and dad told me that I had problem with memorizing verse. I can't do it." I responded with 'huh'? "Okay, let's change this. Let's do 3 words at a time and you repeat it until you know them well. Then add 3 more words and memorize it. Then go back and repeat 6 words together. Then 3 more words then go back and quote 9 words together." I said, "You did it!" He was so excited even though it took longer for him to memorize the whole John 3:16. At the end of church service, the custom was for them to sign out the verse they had memorized. The parents were shocked that their little son had succeeded. So every week both boys memorized new verse with reward.

Several months later, the little boy came to me with a big smile on his face. His hands were hiding something behind him. The parents stand with him, smiling. So I asked, "What's up?" The little boy showed me his two award trophies from the school he had won.

The first award trophy was his best behavior had improved since he first started to memorize weekly verse. Before that, he could not sit still and almost every day, it was like he was out of control. The parents and the teacher didn't know what to do with him. After he started to memorize weekly verse, eventually his behavior changed. He was able to sit still and pay close attention to the teacher. Memorizing God's Word had taken care of his behavior problem. The teacher was so amazed at the big change that had taken place in the class room.

His second award trophy was a big improvement in his school studies. His grades went up. Before he started memorizing verses, he had problems with school work. His grades were always poor. The teacher was also impressed with a big change in him even ask what happened? The little boy just memorized God's Word and it had changed his life.

A few years later this same guy in 6th grade class in a different school told me his story. Each student in his class required standing up in front of the class and gave a speech on their topic. He was voted as a best lecture given in his class. His teacher asked him a question on how did he do it? He simply said, "My Sunday school teacher had me and my brother memorized the verse every week. After church service, we were to stand in front of the people. We gave report what we have learned in our Sunday school class." The teacher said, "I wish all of the kids could learn and practiced in Sunday School class. It might have made a difference." This guy was happy to realize how memorizing the Word of God had influenced his life and made him a better person. (End)

Awesome! How powerful God's Word could even influence our lives?

No Vision, People Perish

Proverbs 29:18
KJV: "Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he."

NCV: "Where there is no word from God, people are uncontrolled, but those who obey what they have been taught are happy."

Note from Zondervan: Where there is no vision. Vision means revelation. When there is no clear revelation and bold declaration of God's will and standards, God's people lose their Biblical convictions, cast off their moral restraints, and subsequently (slowly) perish.

The revealed will of God and His righteous demands as expressed in Scripture must be repeatly kept before the congregation (people), or many will begin to conform to the world and trangress (break) God's law.

Dorothy: I am not sure why this came up but still I share this with you. I happen to see the song "The Vision" and remember Prov. 29:18 so well.

Stay close to Him!

Song: The Vision
Take me, Master break me, use me;
I am leaning on Thy breast;
All ambitions fast are dying,
From their pain now give me rest;
On the altar I have laid them;
Now to Thee I give my heart;
Fill me with the fire of vision;
Let my passions never depart.

Song in the Night

From Linda Martin's amazing memory of songs!!! Awesome!
Good to use it for deaf service if you can't think of new
song to use or share it as part of your devotion (Dorothy).

Psalm 42:8 NIV "By day the Lord directs his love, at night his
song is with me--a prayer to the God of my life."

YOU CAN HAVE A SONG IN YOUR HEART IN THE NIGHT

1. You can have a melody down in your heart
When it's aching almost breaking,
Even though the sorrow makes the teardrops start,
You can have a melody down in your heart.

Chorus: You can have a song in your heart in the night
After every trial, after every mile,
Anyone can sing when the sun's shining bright
But you need a song in your heart at night.

2. Do not let your worries drive your song away,
Though tomorrow bring it sorrow,
Just remember after nighttime comes the day,
Do not let your worries drive your song away.

3. Soon the night will pass and morning bring the day;
I am longing for its dawning,
Until then we'll labor here and watch and pray,
Soon the night will pass and morning bring the day.
(Ira Stanphill)

Dorothy: May the Lord give you a song in the night.
