Redeemed 2

Galatians 3:13a,14 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law ... That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

This song, "Redeemed" reminds me of Maxine Strodebridge, the former teacher of Central Bible College, Springfield, Missouri in 1960’s. This was her favorite song and I have heard her sang it in sign language so many times that her face glow with the Glory of God on her. She also was the National Deaf Representative of Assembly of God. She was at our wedding in 1967 and at the Los Angles Airport, we watched her flew out to become a missionary to Korea under the work of Betty Haney. She worked for the government and that gave Maxine and Betty the privileges of starting the Deaf Ministry among Korean Deaf. Today there are many Deaf Churches in Korea. I like to share the favorite song of Maxine. She was my mentor during my teen and college years.

Song: Redeemed

1. Redeemed how I love it proclaim it!
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed thro’ His infinite mercy,
His child, and forever, I am.
Chorus: Re-deemed, Re-deemed,
Re-deemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Re-deemed, re-deemed,
His child, and forever, I am.

2. Redeemed and so happy in Jesus,
No language my rapture could tell;
I know that the light of His presence
With me doth continually dwell.
[Chorus]
3. I think of my blessed Redeemer,
I think of Him all the day long;
I sing, for I cannot be silent;
His love is the theme of my song.
[Chorus]
4. I know I shall see in His beauty
The King in whose law I delight;
Who lovingly guardeth my footsteps,
And giveth me songs in the night.
[Chorus] (Fanny Jane Crosby)

May the Lord bless the Redeemed Ones!

The Redeemed

From Linda Martin:
Have you "heard" this chorus before? Isaiah 35:10 fits the verse of Isaiah 51:11 "Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away."

Song called: THEREFORE THE REDEEMED

Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return
And come with singing unto Zion
And everlasting joy shall be upon their head.
Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return
And come with singing unto Zion
And everlasting joy shall be upon their head.

They shall obtain gladness and joy
And sorrow and mourning shall flee away.
Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return
And come with singing unto Zion
And everlasting joy shall be upon their head.
Ruth Lake copyright 1972 Scripture in song.

The future prophecy from Isaiah 35:1-10 NIV 'Joy of the Redeemed' people from all over the world will come to Zion singing with joy that our King, the Messiah -- Jesus Christ will reign forever and ever and we shall see the glory of the Lord.

What is redeem? It means buy back; set free; regain what we have lost; deliver from bondage; and liberate. In Old Testament, God has brought back His people from bondage. In New Testament, Christ has bought us back to Him through His Blood. That is redeemed. The Bible talked a lot about the "Redeemed."

So let 'the Redeemed People' sing unto the Lord today!

Broken Heart

Part 2 of Sept 27th "He Keeps Me Singing."
Psalm 51:17 NIV “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God You will not despise.”

What is the closest thing in a relationship that God is looking for? A broken heart draws us closer to Him. After reading Luther Bridgers’ story, I couldn’t describe the deep feeling in my heart what Luther had lost; his wife and his three sons. And still he wrote a song out of his broken heart. So this morning I choose a few of the translations from Psalm 51:17.

The sacrifices of God is a troubled spirit—PBV.
The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit—RSV.
Here, O God, is my sacrifice, a broken spirit—Knox.
A heart—broken and crushed O God thou wilt not despise—Rhm.
A broken and sorrowing heart, O God, you will not put from you—Bas.
You will not scorn this crushed and broken heart—Jerus.

Is your spirit troubled? God wants you. Is your heart broken? God wants you. Are you crushed? God wants you. He will not turn away from you. It is the closest thing that draws God to you. He has a chance to comfort you. He has a chance to reveal His deep love to you. He will not look down at you. He will not make fun of you. He will lift you up and put His arms around you. He will hold you so very close to His own heart.

On the fourth line, words that Luther Bridgers wrote to describe his feeling in a song, He Keeps Me Singing.
“Though sometimes He leads through waters deep,
Trials fall across the way,
Though sometimes the path seems rough and steep,
See His footprints all the way.
Chorus: Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Sweetest Name I know,
Fills my every longing, Keeps me singing as I go.”

Now that I know how the song was created, I have come to love this song even more. God will give you a song in your heart and bring you closer to Him.

So trust God today!

He Keeps Me Singing

Isaiah 35:10 “And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion (Jerusalem) with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads …”

Song: He Keeps Me Singing
Chorus: Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Sweetest name I know,
Fills my every longing, Keeps me singing as I go.
Line 5. Soon He’s coming back to welcome me
Far beyond the starry sky;
I shall flight my wing to worlds unknown,
I shall reign with Him on high. [Then Chorus]
(Luther Burgess Bridgers, Sing His Praise)

As I was driving to work, this spontaneous memory song (chorus and 5th line came to me last Saturday morning on Sept. 25th. I really sang this song out loud (off key maybe), but it felt so good and I had more energy at the end of the day. I was looking for Bible verse to match the song, but I couldn’t find the right one. Thought came to me. How old was the song? Why was the song written? I began searching and found this song with verse from “Then Sings My Soul,” by Robert J. Morgan who wrote 150 of the World’s Greatest Hymn Stories. I am summarizing the story of Luther Bridgers.

Luther Bridgers grew up in North Carolina and he began preaching at age seventeen while attending Asbury College in Kentucky. He had a wonderful wife and three precious boys. In 1910, Luther, age 26, took his family to stay at his wife’s parents while Luther was going on a preaching trip alone. One evening a nearby neighbor, was not able to sleep, rose in the night and looked out his window. He saw the flames, ran across the field, he gave the alarm, but the house was already on fire. Luther’s in-laws and he escaped the fire. Luther tried to re-enter the house, but his neighbors had to restrain him since the house was already collapsing from the flames. Luther was overwhelmed with grief at the lost of his wife and his three sons. It took him a long time to recover from his depression and he remembered the Bible’s promise of “songs in the night.” Several months later, he wrote both words and music. God gave Luther Bridgers the ability to keep singing. In 1914, Luther married again and resumed his ministry until he passed away in Atlanta in 1948.

After reading this story, I felt a little shocked how the song was written. It was not something exciting. It was something tragedy and how God helped him. This is something to think about if you are going through something. May God help us to have courage, “He keeps me singing.”

Most Blessed

Jeremiah 17:7 Amplified
“[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.”

Ever wonder what our lives would be like when we place (put) COMPLETE TRUST IN GOD? Jeremiah 17:8 tells us the answer: “For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care (problems) in the year of drought, nor shall it cease (stop) yielding fruit” (Amplified). (Reference: Psalm 1:2-3)

I found the new song called, “There Is a River.”
There is a river that flows from deep within;
There is a fountain that frees the soul from sin.
Come to the waters: There is a vast supply;
There is a river that never shall run dry.
(David and Max Sapp, Sing His Praise)

So now you know how important it is to trust God today!

Dorothy
PS. Last night this song came to me out of memory so I thought to share this very old song we used to sing in 1950-1990’s.
Song: Nothing But the Blood of Jesus
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Oh precious is that flow
that makes me white as snow.
No other fount (way) I know
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Faith Power

Ephesians 1:19, 20
"This is my prayer . . . that you may . . . realize how . . . tremendous is the power available to us who believe in God" (Phillips).

My exercise prayer to God: When I stand up on the inside and I start believing God, the power of God flows into my body and the power of God causes miracles to happen.

I know that God is power. Power that is in my mind and soul, which flows outward through my thinking, my spirit, my actions, and my surroundings.

I pray by faith that the power of God has already flowed out. The power of God in me will bring harvest and meet my needs today in Jesus' name. Amen.

Remember 9/22/10's devotion? This is like a cow chewing its cud if you need healing today. I do!

So trust God's Word today!

Dorothy

PS. Set My Spirit Free
Set my spirit free that I might worship Thee.
Set my spirit free that I might praise Thy name.
Let all bondage go,
and let deliverance flow.
Set my spirit free to worship Thee.
(John Haddock, Sing His Praise)

Keep Muttering

Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, and but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have a good success.”

The key to God’s promise of success to Joshua was to KEEP MUTTERING the Word of God. The Biblical meaning of mediation is to speak to oneself [Wilson’s Word Studies], to speak out loud, or mutter.

The word to meditate is pictured as a cow chewing its cud. The cow swallows its food then brings it up again, chews it some more and brings it up again until the cow absorbs all the nutrients from the cud. In the same way, we are to “chew” on the Word of God until we absorb the divine energy and life in the Word of God.

It is not enough just to memorize the Word of God. The Word of God has to become a living part of who we are, what we think, and how we act. Picture the Word being part of your success in your life.

Prayer: To keep muttering means “we rested in His anointing and remembered the word of Isaiah which says, “Surely He has borne all my pains.” Lord, You took our pains two thousand years ago. We pray right now that we will experience Your work at Calvary this very moment, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Trust God’s Word today!

Glory of God Series 14

Good morning from Minnespolis airport on 9/20/10 at 1:15 p.m. I would like to share Dean's respond on "peace" from Sept. 15, 2010 (Glory of God Series 12)

2 Corinthians 13:11bc
“Live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.”

Dean: So true ... Biblical/God's peace is so different than the world's concept. Theirs is that peace is absence of all problems. (The world's peace means when there is no problems, that's peace.) God's peace is internal (inside) & God's peace is there in our hearts despite problems. (It means we can have peace in our hearts during the storms).

Best picture I ever saw of God's kind of peace: A tiny bird clinging quietly on a tree/bush branch in the midst of a driving storm. The bird was sleeping peacefully despite the storm.

Dorothy: It reminds me of what Jesus meant, "My peace I give unto you. It is not the same kind of peace that the world gives. It is a different kind of peace. A peace I give you is in time of troubles. That is a real peace from Me."

So let's remember Jesus' peace in our hearts during the time of storm!

Glory of God Series 13

“In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.” Isaiah 30:15c

Different translations:
“… in keeping quiet and trusting shall be your strength.” Rhm
“... peace and hope are your strength.” Bas
“… your strength is quiet faith.” Mof
“If you will be calm and trust Me, you will be strong.” Ncv

From this verse, God spoke to Isaiah to tell His people to return to Him. He promised strength to them, but they would not listen to Him. This is important to take a moment of quiet time and trusting God will flow from His strength into your strength. The glory of God is our strength. Let His glory flow into our being and be strong again.

I found the song from the ‘Sing His Praise’ book called, “Blessed Quietness.” It is new to me and I think I am going to learn this.

Chorus: Blessed Quietness
Blessed quietness, Holy quietness,
What assurance (satisfy) in my soul ….
On the stormy sea
He speaks peace to me;
How the billows (waves) cease (stop) to roll (troubles).
(Manie Payne Ferguson)

Let the peace of God flows through our inner spirits.

PS. I would appreciate your prayer since I will be flying out to Edmonton, Canada tonight for Deaf Women Retreat over the weekend. Thank you!

Glory of God Series 12

“Live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.”
2 Corinthians 13:11bc

Last night, I was resting and watched a movie, then suddenly the ‘alert’ program interrupted the movie. The alert said that a child was abducted that moment and reveals the counties location with a hope to catch whoever took the child. This grieved my heart, and Tony and I start praying, commanding that evil spirit to stop doing this. We prayed that the people will not be comfortable in keeping the child and to return that child in Jesus’ name. I also rebuked and told that evil spirits to stop this since I felt anger against the work of darkness. I felt like there was no peace in this world. Then the movie we watched resume, I lost interests and went to sleep.

This morning, I draw a card verse, “Live in peace; and the God of love
and peace shall be with you.” I was impressed that the Holy Spirit encouraged me to have peace and trust God. Then old chorus, “Wonderful Peace” came to my spirit as I sang them. Holy Spirit’s peace was sweet. The glory of God is in such wonderful peace. It is inside of us. Let it glow!

Song: Wonderful Peace
Peace! Peace! Wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above,
Sweep over my spirit forever I pray,
In fathomless (deep) billows (much) of love.
(W. D. Cornell, altered)

So my friends, if you are anxious, try this song.

Glory of God series 11

"As truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord." Numbers 14:21

When I picked up this card, I had wondered how could the whole earth be filled with the glory of God? NCV says "As surely as I live and as surely as My glory fills the whole earth" (God said to Moses).

As I meditate or think very deeply about this verse, I realized that the new heaven and new earth will be full of people singing to the Lord and glorifying Him.

In this world today, there are small percentages of born-again Christians all over the world glorifying God. Compare to the new earth, the whole earth, there will be 100 percent of His people that will be glorifying God. That, my friend is going to be an awesome glorious day! So let's glorify God today!

Song: Glorify Thy Name.
1. Father, we love Thee, We worship and adore Thee;
Glorify Thy name in all the earth ....
Glorify Thy name .. Glorify Thy name ..
Glorify Thy name .. in all the earth ....

2. Jesus, we love Thee, We worship and adore Thee;
Glorify Thy name in all the earth ....
Glorify Thy name .. Glorify Thy name ..
Glorify Thy name .. in all the earth ....

3. Spirit, we love Thee, We worship and adore Thee;
Glorify Thy name in all the earth ....
Glorify Thy name .. Glorify Thy name ..
Glorify Thy name .. in all the earth ....

Glory of God Series 10

Dean Hardy respond to the "Glory of God Series 9."
So true, I happened to be reading in Ezekiel this morning too.

In chapter 22 God lists His grievances against His people, especially against those who were ungodly leaders (princes/priests/prophets). For the complete list read the whole chapter.

The verses that spoke to me the loudest were ... "Your priests have violated My instructions & defiled My holy things. They make no distinction between what is holy and what is not. And they do not teach My people the difference between what is ceremonially clean & unclean. They disregard My Sabbath days so that I am dishonored among them ... I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one." Ezekiel 22:26, 30 NLT

For example: I wonder how many Christians consider our 'Sabbath' as just another day where we happen to go to church for 1 hour, but we spend the rest of the day (i.e. the other 16-17 hours) in earthly pleasures. It seems that our focus on the Sabbath day is to have a 'holiday' instead of a 'holy day' as God commands (See Leviticus 23:3). Without holiness, there can be no glory of God in our lives. Why? Because God's glory comes out of His holiness (see Isaiah 6) ... I am not one who is legalistic about Sundays, but we do need to consider what our primary focus should be in using our time on this 'day of rest.'

Are we as Christians willing & ready to 'stand in the gap' of our broken walls of righteousness & to rebuild them. We need to stand up for what is right & good, calling God's people back to His holy ways.

Keep on keeping on, Dean

Glory of God Series 9

“… Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”
Ezekiel 12:15; 39:28

From Ezekiel 12:15, I have checked out about 65 references on the title, “Then they shall know that I am the Lord,” from the technology Bible NIV until I reached 39:28 “Then they will know that I am the Lord their God …” From there and here, I have noticed that there were so many warnings from the Lord. Why God would give so many warnings? God loved His own people, Israel. The warnings showed that God was hurt and grieved that His people had worshiped the false gods instead of worshiping Him. God had hoped for His people would come back to Him.

The book of Ezekiel has the most emphasis of “then they shall know that I am the Lord” as opposed to the false god that they choose over Him. Here are few examples how much God loves Israel and we are called, “Israel, His people.” Ezekiel 34:31 “You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are people, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign Lord.” 36:11 “… I will make you prosper more than before. Then you will know that I am the Lord” (NIV). God wants to bless you so trust Him today!

Song: My Savior First of All
(Chorus: I Shall Know Him)
I shall know .. Him, I shall know .. Him,
As redeemed by His side I shall stand …;
I shall know .. Him, I shall know .. Him,
by the print of the nails in His hand.

Glory of God Series 8

Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I am God."

Elijah had traveled many days until he arrived at Horeb, the mountain of God. Elijah was very tired so he went into the cave and spent the night. Then the next morning the Lord appears to Elijah and both had conversation together. The Lord asked him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” Elijah explained that they had killed the prophets of God and they tried to kill him, too. Elijah was so discouraged he wanted to die. Elijah thought that the Lord was ‘helpless’ and was not able doing anything about it. Have you ever felt that sometimes? Let’s see what the Lord would do about this.

The Lord asked Elijah to go out of the cave and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord. Probably, Elijah was seeing the ‘Glory of God.’ First, the Lord sends a great and powerful wind that tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks. Second, after the wind there was an earthquake. Third, after the earthquake, came a fire. But the Lord was not in any of this.

And after the fire, the Lord came to Elijah with a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard the gentle whisper from the Lord, he pulled his *cloak over his face and went out and stood before the Lord. Elijah became still and knew that gentle whisper was God. Elijah listened to the Lord’s instruction what he needed to do. Story is found in I Kings 19:9-18 NIV. *Cloak=a loose coat with no sleeves that you wrap around your shoulders and fasten at the neck. In KJV, a mantle is the same as cloak.

Why did God do three great things before Elijah? The Lord wanted to correct Elijah that He was not a helpless God. When Elijah heard God’s gentle whisper, he listened. To Elijah, the ‘Glory of God’ was in that gentle whisper. So let us ‘be still and know that He is God.’

Song: Be Still and Know that I am God.
Be still and know ... that I am God …
Why toss about and worry so …?
Be still and know … that I am God …
I’ll lead you where … the quiet waters flow …
(By melody Choruses)
