July 2016 – Sovereignty of God Defined – Manna by Dorothy
Isaiah 40:15 KJV “Behold, the nations
are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance …”
Isaiah,
the prophet compared the sovereignty (the
ruling) of nations with the sovereignty (supreme
ruler) of God, he said, “Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and
are counted as the small dust on the scales” (Isaiah 40:15 NKJV).
Sovereign
nations have boundaries (limited in their
ruling), but the sovereignty (supreme
power) of God knows no boundaries (no
limited). It means God can do anything. Even He has held the oceans in His
hand! (Is. 40:12). Sovereignty means that God has supreme authority and power
over the universe.
How
do you define God? Who introduce God? No one. God introduce Himself to Abraham.
Genesis 17:1 “. . . the Lord appeared to
Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.”
When
He appeared to Abraham He said, “I am Almighty God” (v.1). We can only know
Almighty God as He is revealed to us in His Word. Moses said, “The secret things belong to the
Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our
children forever, that we may do all the words of this law” (Deut. 29:29).
Paul,
the apostle wrote how he felt about God.
To Paul, God was awesome and Paul worship Him: “Yes, God’s riches are very great, and His
wisdom and knowledge have no end! No one
can explain the things God decides or understand His ways. 34) As the Scripture
says, “Who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been able to give Him
advice?” 35) No one has ever given God anything that He must pay back. 36) Yes, God made all things . . .” (Rom.
11:33-36, NCV).
Dorothy: Reading from Isaiah 40:25
God asks “To whom will you compare Me?
Who is My equal:” asks the Holy One. And verse 26, “Look up into
heavens. Who created all the stars?
(NLT). Who was God speaking to? Let’s
read from NLT.
“O Israel, how can you say the Lord
does not see your troubles? How can you say
God refuses to hear your case?” (Isaiah 40:27). Do you ever felt like that? We are seeing all kinds of troubles in many
places especially nations. Where is God in all this? Isaiah has the answer.
“Have you never heard or understood?
Don’t you know that the Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the
earth? He never grows faint or weary. No one can measure the depths of His
understanding.” (Isaiah 40:28).
“He gives power to those who are
tired and worn out: He offers strength to the weak. Even youths will become
exhausted, and young men will give up.
But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:29-31, NLT).
Song: They That Wait Upon
the Lord
They
that wait upon the Lord
shall renew their strength.
They
shall mount up with the wings as an eagle.
They
shall run and not be weary
They shall walk and not faint.
Teach
me Lord, teach me Lord to wait …
