Rejoice Your Name Written

Luke 10:20 “Rejoice ... your name are written in heaven.”

Disciples returned home from their trip from their evangelistic work to different cities and villages that Jesus had send them. They were rejoicing and said that even demons were subject to them. Jesus was saying ... that is good but rather focus on this one thing ... Rejoice ... your names are written in heaven.

It is interesting that Jesus would bring their focus to something else. It is easy to really "dig in" in what you have accomplished like the disciples did when they were talking about demons being subject to them. (It is like a deliverance ministry). It was new to them and they kept talking about it.

Finally, Jesus directed their attention to something else. It is like He shifted their conversation to something better. "It is better that you rejoice that your names are written in heaven." The disciples may say, "Oh okay" and they realized there were also other important things as well. (Reading Luke 10:17-19).

So Jesus said, "Rejoice ... your name is written in heaven." Hallelujah!

There's a reason I created this devotion. There's a song that matched the verse really well and it is called:

"A New Name in Glory"
Chorus:
There's a new name written down in glory, (heaven)
And it's mine, O yes, it's mine!
And the white-robed angels sing the story,
"A sinner has come home."
For there's a new name written down in glory,
And it's mine, O yes, it's mine!
With my sins forgiven
I am bound toward heaven,
Nev-er-more to roam.

1. I was once a sinner but I came
Pardon to receive from my Lord:
This was freely given, and I found
That He always kept His Word.
Chorus: There's a new name written down in glory, (heaven)
And it's mine, O yes, it's mine!
And the white-robed angels sing the story,
"A sinner has come home."
For there's a new name written down in glory,
And it's mine, O yes, it's mine!
With my sins forgiven
I am bound toward heaven,
Nev-er-more to roam.
