This is the Record, God 2/1

01 February 2016 – This is the Record, God – Manna/Card Verse by Dorothy Callies

“And this is the record, God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son”
1 John 5:11, KJV.

We all accept reports of the news media and the word of friends every day.  My husband, Tony, every morning faithfully picked up the newspaper, goes to his chair and read about the local news that was going on.  So the newspaper is the record from several reporters who collected the information and type them for us to read.

When John said, “this is the record.”  What did he meant by that?  Let’s look up the word, record and get the better idea.  Record means to set down in writing; to register permanently (events recorded in history); to give evidence of (verb).  Another meaning of record is in noun; the state or fact of being recorded; something that tells about past events; an official writing that records what has been said.

You know, when men interpret the facts; they sometimes exaggerate and twist the facts.  We are never completely free of personal opinion and interests.  And some men even lie and deceive when sharing with us.  But not God. God never exaggerates or twists the facts; He never lies or deceives.  What God says is true; it is the plain and simple truth.

How much greater report of the news when John said, “This is the record that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.”  Life—Eternal Life: life is one of the great words of the Scriptures.  The word “life” and the verb “to live” or “to have life” have a depth of meaning.
1.      Life is the energy, the force, the power of being.  Jesus said, “I am the life …” (Jn.14:6).
2.      Life is the opposite of perishing. “whosoever believeth in Him should not perish…” (Jn.3:16).
3.      Life is eternal. “And this is eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (Jn.17:3).
4.      Life is satisfaction. Jesus said, “I am the bread of life” (Jn.6:35).
5.      Life is security and enjoyment. (“… and that they might have it (life) more abundantly” (Jn.10:10).
6.      Life is found only in God. Jesus Christ gives the very life of God Himself to believers. “For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself” (Jn.5:26).
7.      Life has now been revealed. It is clearly seen in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ shows man what life is. “In Him was life; and the life was the light of men” (Jn.1:4).

Dorothy: Wow! This is so enriching that “life only comes to us by believing in Jesus Christ.” Lord, we thank You for Your presence through this simple little card verse that You have revealed to us. We love You, Lord in Jesus’ name, amen. May this bless your heart!

Song: Yesterday, Today, Forever
      By Albert B. Simpson
Yesterday, today, forever, Jesus is the same;
All may change, but Jesus never! Glory to His name.
Glory to His name, glory to His name;
All may change, but Jesus never! Glory to His name.
