Feb 2016 - Path of Life – Manna Card Verse by Dorothy Callies
“Thou
wilt show me the path of life” –Psalm 16:11a.
To
appreciate this verse, I am reading from Psalm 16:10-11 in NLT. “For You will
not leave my soul among the dead or allow your godly one (your Holy One) to rot
in the grave. You will show me the way of
life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with
you forever.”
In
KJV, Ps.16:10-11, “For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither will thou
suffer (let) thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt show me the path of life: in the presence is fullness of
joy, at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
In
Psalm 16:10, David stated confidently that God would not leave him in the
grave. Many people fear death because they cannot control it or understand it.
As believers, we can be assured that God will not forget us when we die. He
will bring us to life again to live with Him forever.
This
Psalm 16:8-11 is often called a messianic (MESSIAH’S) psalm because it is
quoted in the New Testament as referring to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Both Peter and Paul quoted from this psalm when speaking of Christ’s body of
resurrection. Let’s just read Peter’s …
It
was on the day of Pentecost, when Peter stood up to preach from Acts 2:22-32,
NLT “People of Israel, listen! God publicly endorsed (approved) Jesus of
Nazareth by doing wonderful miracles, wonders, and signs through him, as you
well know 23) But you followed God’s prearranged plan. With the help of lawless
Gentiles, you nailed Him to the cross and murdered Him. 24) However, God
released Him from the horrors of death and raised Him back to life again, for
death could not keep Him in its grip. 25) King David said this about Him:
‘I
know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside
me. 26) No wonder my heart is filled with joy, and my mouth shouts His praise!
My body rests in hope. 27) For you will not leave my soul among the dead or
allow your Holy One to rot in the grave. 28) You have shown me the way of life, and you will give me wonderful
joy in your presence.’
29)
“Dear brothers, think about this! David wasn’t referring to himself when he
spoke these words I have quoted, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is
still here among us. 30) But he was a prophet, and he knew God had promised
with an oath that one of David’s own descendants would sit on David’s throne as
A MESSIAH.
31)
“David was looking into the future and predicting the MESSIAH’S RESURRECTION.
He was saying that the MESSIAH would not be left among the dead and that His
body would not rot in the grave. 32) This prophecy was speaking of JESUS, whom
God raised from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this.”
Dorothy: Who would
have thought that Psalm 16:11 was a part of Messiah’s prophecy? Peter preached the
most powerful message, quoted from the Old Testament, Joel and Psalm. Peter preached the Gospel through the power of the Holy Spirit who convicted 3,000 people to accept Christ into their hearts. When you think of
it, you realize that Holy Spirit made this tiny verse into a very big subject
that it was all about Messiah. Holy Spirit wants us to know that He is coming
soon. He is coming soon. With joy, we’ll welcome His returning. It may be morn;
it may be night or noon. We know He is coming soon. (Inspiring Choruses)
May
the Lord bless His Word into our hearts and grow richly in Him. Amen!
