March 27-28, 2014 - The
Word of God Stands – Manna by Dorothy Callies
Isaiah 40:8, KJV
“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand
for ever.”
Reading from Isaiah
40:6-8, NLT
“A voice said, “Shout!” I asked, “What should I shout?” Shout that people are
like the grass that dies away. Their beauty fades as quickly as the beauty of
flowers in a field. The grass withers, and the flowers fade beneath the breath
of the Lord. And so it is with
people. The grass withers, and the
flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”
People are compared
to grass and flowers that wither away. The word, wither means to lose
liveliness, force, or freshness and to shrivel from or as if from loss of
bodily moisture and especially sap like the crops withered during the drought.
We are mortal, a human being and certain to die. But God’s Word is eternal and
never-failing. Public opinion changes all the times and is not reliable, but
God’s Word is constant. Only in God’s eternal Word we will find lasting
solutions to our problems and needs.
Reading from 1 Peter 1:24-25, NLT “For
you have been born again. Your new life did not come from your earthly parents
because the life they gave you will end in death. But this new life will last
forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God. As the prophet
says, “People are like grass that dies away, their beauty fades as quickly as
the beauty of wildflowers. The grass withers, and the flowers fall away. But the word of the Lord will last forever. And
that word is the Good News that was preached to you.”
Peter said, “As the
prophet says,” he read the book of Isaiah and quoted from chapter 40:6-8 to
encourage the born-again Christians that our new life is in Christ. All created
life is frail meaning, not having normal strength or force and weak and our
bodies will eventually come to an end, but God’s word endures forever. God’s
promises will be fulfilled. His truth cannot be changed.
What does this means
to me? While I was still amazed what has happened to Tony, I drew out the Bread
Card and read the verse on Isaiah 40:8 that grass and flowers faded is like our
bodies are slowly dying away. I felt God revived me when it says, “But the word
of our God shall stand for ever.” I felt the strength stronger than before. I
asked Tony how he felt and he felt stronger, too! I realized that standing on
God’s Word gives strength to our bodies as well. Thank God for you who prayed
for Tony and me. If you need prayers, please send your request by March 29. To see the prayer list, log in: http://www.deafprayerpartners.blogspot.com/
Chorus: The Bible
Stands
The Bible stands
though the hills may tumble;
It will firmly stand
when the earth shall crumble;
I will plant my feet
on its firm foundation,
For the Bi … ble …
stands ….
