John 8:12 Jesus said,
“I am the light of the world: he (you) that followeth Me shall not walk in
darkness, but shall have the light of life” (KJV).
Let us study the
word, “light” in order to appreciate
what Jesus meant when He said, “I am the Light …” In Merriam-Webster
Dictionary, I select only a few to define the meaning of the word, light. 1: something that makes vision

The meaning of
darkness is being without light or without much light like in winter it gets
dark early. Not bright and cheerful: gloomy; not clear to understanding
<puzzled us with his dark sayings> …
Jesus introduced
Himself to the world, “I am the light of the world …” The world, a man has
great need. A man is not always aware of it, but the need is still there. Man
is in darkness. A man cannot see into the future nor into the next world. A man
cannot see God, who He is and what He is like. A man cannot see the real
meaning or purpose of life. A man does not grasp that there is an eternal life.
So therefore a man needs the light, Jesus, Himself.
Jesus is the light of
life. A man exists in darkness until He follows Christ. It is Christ who throws
light upon life, revealing what life really is. Jesus is the true light. He
removes darkness and deception by lighting the right way to God and to salvation.
All those who follow Jesus are delivered from the darkness of sin, the world,
and Satan.
A friend came to me
with a struggle that he felt his mind was dark and had difficulty in reading
Scripture. I had suggested memorizing John 8:12 as many times as needed. Later
on his life changed and he was seeing more light in him and God began to talk
to him about many things. Are you going through dark time? John 8:12 would be a
good Scripture to quote and to be delivered from darkness.
