Ezekiel 6:9 The Word of the Lord said, “I am broken …”
KJV Bread Box 8/19/2010
The Lord God was speaking to Ezekiel, the priest who was living by the Chebar River in Babylon during the captivity of Israel. In chapter 8, the Lord transported Ezekiel’s spirit "in the visions of God" to Jerusalem. The Lord God showed Ezekiel inside the temple, the Holy Place where seventy older leaders of Israel worshipped every kind of crawling thing, and idols carved on the wall all around the holy place. (The Holy Place consist Golden Altar, Bread Table, Golden Candlestick. The Most Holy Place consist the Ark of God.)
The Lord brought Ezekiel to the inner courtyard and he saw twenty-five men worshipped the sun god in the east. “…I was hurt because they were unfaithful to Me and turned away from Me and desired to worship their idols” (Eze.6:9 ncv). Is there any wonder why God allow Babylonian armies to destroy the Temple because of all the idols were inside the Holy Place? God had shown Ezekiel to understand why God allows judgment and destruction in the land of Israel and Jerusalem.
Ezekiel 10-11 explains that finally the Glory of the Lord had to leave the temple and eventually left the city of Jerusalem and rested on the Mount of Olives (Ezekiel 11:23) because of people’s sin and idolatry. God left His house, the Temple because of His holiness and He had to separate Himself from the idolatry in the temple. This is an example that God’s glory and presence could depart from the church if the minister and the people’s heart are far from God and the church will become an empty shell. So it is important to fervently desire God’s glory and presence and at the same time hate sin and idolatry.
So let us comfort God’s broken heart by loving Him.
