Be Called Wonderful (6/13-15)

13-15 June 2015 - Be Called Wonderful  – Manna by Dorothy Callies

Isaiah 9:6 “His name shall be called Wonderful . . .”

We are living in times of great troubles especially the weather everywhere and it makes us feel like the “darkness of the land.” The Scripture tells us that “The people who walk in darkness will see a great light—a light that will shine on all who live in the land where death casts its shadow” (Is. 9:2). In a time of great darkness, God promised to send a light who would shine on everyone living in the shadow of death.

In Matthew 4:12-17 NLT, “When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he left Judea and returned to Galilee. But instead of going to Nazareth, he went to Capernaum, beside the Sea of Galilee, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. This fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy: “In the land of Zebulun and Naphtali, beside the sea, beyond the Jordan River—in Galilee where so many Gentiles live—the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.” From then on, Jesus began to preach, “Turn from your sins and turn to God, because the Kingdom of Heaven is near.””

I search and found it was Isaiah 9:1-2 that was prophesied in Jesus’ time. Also I discovered something else about Jesus as a child. What was his favorite food that Jesus would eat? Can you guess? Isaiah 7:15, “Butter and honey shall he eat …” I was thrilled to discover something little about Him since not much history during Jesus’ growing years except this verse. “That he may know to refuse evil, and choose the good” (Is.7:15).

How do we know if this was really Jesus who ate “butter and honey”? Look at Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name, Immanuel. Butter and honey shall he eat …” (Is.7:14-15).

What does this mean to me? Sometimes ago, I had pondered what’s Jesus’ childhood was like. It was just a thought, not thinking I would find anything more from the Scriptures. I was delightfully surprised to discover this verse about Him liking the “butter and honey.”  To me, it was wonderful even to know a little things about Him and what He likes. I thought of a song, “Wonderful Savior.”

Song: Wonderful Savior
Jesus my Lord, I’ll ever adore Thee,
Lay at Thy feet my treasures of love;
Lead me in ways to show forth Thy glory,
Ways that will end in heaven above.
Chorus:
Wonderful Savior, wonderful Savior,
Thou art so near, so precious to me;
Wonderful Savior, wonderful Savior,
My heart is filled with praises to Thee.
(J. M. Harris, Sing His Praise)
