Meek are Blessed (6/16-18)
16-18 June
2015 - Meek are Blessed – Card verse by Dorothy Callies
Matthew
5:5 NLT, “God blesses those who are gentle and lowly, for the whole earth will
belong to them.”
On June
12, I picked up one verse from the bread box that quoted, “Blessed are the meek
for they shall inherit the earth.” I meditate and quote the verse. On June 13th,
I decided to do some research on “Meek.” After I printed and read some, then
suddenly I remember my being “cranky” with Comcast lady last June 9th.
I realized God was speaking to my heart about that. So what’s the story? Here
goes . . .
I warned
her that I was very cranky with Comcast along with Xfinity. I had some errands
to do with Comcast. She looked up at my husband and said, “Boy, you got a
cranky wife.” Tony nodded his head with a smile. I was irritated with Comcast
for raising the cost of billing. So I had to cut down the channels to basic and
economy and did so. Then I show her the email from Comcast/Xfinity mandate me
to update the modem. I was irritated that I had to go to Best Buy to buy a new
modem which was cheaper than renting their modem at $10 a month.
Next pay
the bill. The lady said that they no longer takes billing. She pointed to the
machine that we do the job. I sighed. More work. She showed me how to do it and
it was done. I went back to pick up the folder and she looked down and wouldn’t
look at me. So I left and thought nothing about the situation until . . .
I saw the
verse … “Blessed are the meek” … At first I didn’t get it so I mediate and quote
the verse. Then it seems that God brought that memory back to me, and I
realized I wasn’t “meek” at all. I research several verses from Psalm about the
meek and how the evil people would no longer “bully” them. Only the meek will
inherit the earth and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace
(Ps.37:11). Then God said, “There will be no “cranky” person . . .” Oh, oh!
When I
read Colossians 3:12-17, I realized I had forgotten His Word. What impressed
me? I am Christ’s representative; be compassionate like Christ; let the peace
of Christ rule my heart; always be thankful; keep God’s Word in you; and
forgiving attitude.
My
commentary tells me that the key to forgiving others is remembering how much
God has forgiven you. Is it difficult for you to forgive someone who has
wronged you a little when God has forgiven you so much? Realizing God’s
infinite love and forgiveness can help you love and forgive others.
Most
important was what Jesus said, “I am meek, let me teach you …” (Matt.11:29). I
realize I need to go back to meet the lady at Comcast’s office and I met
her. I asked her to forgive me and told
her how God has convicted my heart about being “cranky.” Her response: “I
appreciate that very much.” The other lady beside her, looked so surprised and
delightful.
Prayer
card: “Lord, keep me meek, so that the love of Christ will shine through me to
others.” Dot: Lord, help me to remember that the “meek” are the ones “putting
up with wrongs patiently and without complaint.” Thank You for being so kind to
show me this and to keep me close to You in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Be Called Wonderful (6/13-15)
13-15 June
2015 - Be Called Wonderful – Manna by Dorothy Callies
Isaiah 9:6
“His name shall be called Wonderful . . .”
We are
living in times of great troubles especially the weather everywhere and it
makes us feel like the “darkness of the land.” The Scripture tells us that “The
people who walk in darkness will see a great light—a light that will shine on
all who live in the land where death casts its shadow” (Is. 9:2). In a time of
great darkness, God promised to send a light who would shine on everyone living
in the shadow of death.
In Matthew
4:12-17 NLT, “When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he left Judea and
returned to Galilee. But instead of going to Nazareth, he went to Capernaum,
beside the Sea of Galilee, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. This
fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy: “In the land of Zebulun and Naphtali, beside the
sea, beyond the Jordan River—in Galilee where so many Gentiles live—the people
who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land
where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.” From then on, Jesus began to
preach, “Turn from your sins and turn to God, because the Kingdom of Heaven is
near.””
I search
and found it was Isaiah 9:1-2 that was prophesied in Jesus’ time. Also I discovered
something else about Jesus as a child. What was his favorite food that Jesus
would eat? Can you guess? Isaiah 7:15, “Butter and honey shall he eat …” I was
thrilled to discover something little about Him since not much history during
Jesus’ growing years except this verse. “That he may know to refuse evil, and
choose the good” (Is.7:15).
How do we
know if this was really Jesus who ate “butter and honey”? Look at Isaiah 7:14
“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall
conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name, Immanuel. Butter and honey
shall he eat …” (Is.7:14-15).
What does
this mean to me? Sometimes ago, I had pondered what’s Jesus’ childhood was
like. It was just a thought, not thinking I would find anything more from the
Scriptures. I was delightfully surprised to discover this verse about Him
liking the “butter and honey.” To me, it
was wonderful even to know a little things about Him and what He likes. I
thought of a song, “Wonderful Savior.”
Song: Wonderful Savior
Jesus my
Lord, I’ll ever adore Thee,
Lay at Thy
feet my treasures of love;
Lead me in
ways to show forth Thy glory,
Ways that
will end in heaven above.
Chorus:
Wonderful
Savior, wonderful Savior,
Thou art
so near, so precious to me;
Wonderful
Savior, wonderful Savior,
My heart
is filled with praises to Thee.

Hallelujah! (6/11-12)
11-12 June
2015 - Hallelujah! – Manna by Dorothy Callies
Psalms
111:1 NLT, “Praise the Lord! I will thank the Lord with all my heart as I meet
with His godly people.”
Psalm
111-118 are called hallelujah psalms. Hallelujah means “praise the Lord” and
expresses the uplifting and optimistic tone of these songs. Also it is a
“sudden cry out” expression of praise and adoration. Praise is the heartfelt
response to God by those who love Him. The more you get to know God and realize
what He has done, the more you will respond with praise. Praise is the heart of
true worship.
Psalm
111:10, “Reverence for the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. The rewards
of wisdom come to all who obey Him.” *The only way to become truly wise is to
fear (revere) God. This same thought is expressed in Proverbs 1:7 “Fear of the
Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Only fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
*Too often
people want to skip this step (v. 10), thinking they can become wise by life
and experience and academic knowledge alone. But if we do not acknowledge God
as a source of wisdom, then our foundation for making wise decisions is shaky
and we might make mistakes. [*Notes from Quick
Verse Life Application Bible]. Dorothy: I thought this was too good
to pass up on Ps. 111:10 since I learned something that people tend to skip
that verse 10. That was unbelievable!
Revelation
19:1, 4, 6 NLT, “After this, I heard the sound of a vast crowd in heaven
shouting, “Hallelujah! Salvation is
from our God. Glory and power belong to Him alone.” V.4 “Then the twenty-four
elders and the four living beings fell down and worshiped God, who was sitting
on the throne. They cried out, “Amen! Hallelujah!”
V.6 “Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a huge crowd, or the
roar of mighty ocean waves, or the crash of loud thunder: “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty reigns.”
Dorothy:
Why am I doing this research? On the morning of June 8th, when I got
up from the bed, the word came from my inner spirit, “hallelujah!” So I start
singing and I really felt uplifting! So I want to know more about “hallelujah”
from the Scriptures. Thank you, Holy Spirit for being our wonderful teacher!
Hallelujah!
Song: Glory Hallelujah!
Glory!
Glory, hallelujah!
Glory!
Glory, hallelujah!

Prayer for Strength (6/10)
10 June
2015 - Prayer for Strength – Manna by Dorothy Callies
Ephesians
3:16 “He would grant you . . . (His) strength . . .”
Ephesians
3:16 impressed me: “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His
glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man” (NKJV).
Paul prayed this prayer for us 2,000 years ago! And God still answer Paul’s
prayer for us today! Glory! I thought to share this part about strength from
Gloria Copeland’s “Faith to Faith.” Thanks to friends who send me this.
*The word
translated "strength" in this scripture is dunamis. It means
"God's miracle-working power." Just think about that. When your human
strength ends, God has promised that His miracle-working power will bring you
through!
*If you'll
look in Acts 14, you can see that promise in action. The apostle Paul was
stoned by a group of Jews, taken out of the city and left for dead. Paul's
human strength had ended. He was absolutely powerless.
*But the disciples gathered around him and prayed, and the Lord raised him up and he went on his way. In other words, when Paul didn't have enough human strength to overcome, God's miracle-working power was sufficient for him. It enabled him to be an overcomer in spite of his weakness!
*So, if you are facing a crisis today. If you're sick and medicine has failed you. If your finances are out of control. If your family is falling apart. If bad habits have you hopelessly bound. If you've done absolutely all you know to do and you still haven't gotten results. Then rejoice! For when human strength ends, the power of God excels! Only believe! God's grace is sufficient for you!
Gloria’s scripture was based on 2 Cor. 12:9 “And
he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made
perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my
infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” [*Footnote: “Faith
to Faith” by Gloria Copeland]
Song: He Giveth More Grace
He giveth
more grace when the burden grows greater;
He sendeth
more strength when the labors increase.
To added
(many) affliction He addeth His mercy;
To
multiplied (many) trials, His multiplied peace.
Chorus:
His love
has no limit; His grace has no measure;
His power
has no boundary known unto men.
For out of
His infinite riches in Jesus,
He giveth,
and giveth and giveth again.
2. When we
have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our
strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we
reach the end of our hoarded resources,
Our Father’s
full giving is only begun. (Chorus)

Avenue to Power (6/7-9)
07-09 June
2015 - Avenue to Power – Manna by Dorothy Callies
2 Cor.
12:9 God said, “. . . My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
I like the
title, “Avenue to Power.” So I search the meaning of avenue. Avenue means a way
or route to a place or goal: PATH means a way of life, conduct, or thought.
This led me to check what is the different between street and avenue. The
street means a public way especially in a city, town or village usually
including sidewalks and being wider than an alley or lane. The part of a street
is reserved for cars, public way with the property along it. Street came from
Latin strata “paved road”.
If you
wondered, how did I end up with this title, Avenue to Power? Well, I came to
the point where I felt a little weak and my fistula area wasn’t improving fast
enough (just too slow) and I had to change the gauze so often. I was “sighing”
to the Lord, wondering when this will ever be healed completely. As always,
looking for something to read, I search for an old RBC “Our Daily Bread”
collections box and picked it up and found this already opened. I read the part
about Paul … and I sigh! (to let out long breath as in weariness)
What
impressed me strongly, “My strength is made perfect in weakness.” I read that
verse many times, but when it came to my “sighing”, I felt God spoke to me, “My
strength is made perfect in weakness.” I repeat to myself several time, “God
said, My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
So the
avenue to power was from “God’s strength flowing into our weaknesses.” Avenue
to power is a way or route to a place is God, Himself. Our problem became an
avenue for God’s strength. In another word, our problem reminds us that God has
strength to give in our weakness.
We know
that Paul pleaded God three times, and Paul learned the secret … “When I am
weak, then I am strong.” (2 Cor. 12:7-10) So I quote, “God’s strength is made
perfect in my weakness. When I am weak, then I am strong.” I noticed Paul
“boast” and I think he meant that he spoke out and say, “In my infirmities, the
power of Christ may rest upon me …” Paul’s weakness became an “avenue to God’s
power.”
This gave
me a new meaning to understand the purpose of my weakness has become an “Avenue
to God’s Power.” In facing our struggles, we just simply yield totally to God.
When we do, God can use our problems as “an avenue for His power.” The inspiration
song came to me, “the pow-er, the pow-er.” The title was “Waiting on the Lord.”
Song: The Power (Waiting on the Lord) by Charles F Weigle
Chorus: The pow – er! The pow – er!
Gives victory over sin and purity within;
The pow – er! The pow – er!
The power they had at Pen – te - cost.
Verse: Waiting on the Lord, longing to mount higher;
Waiting on the Lord, having great
desire;
Waiting on the Lord, for the heavenly
fire;
Waiting in the Up – per Room.
Chorus: The Pentecostal power, the Pentecostal power!
Gives victory over sin and purity
within;
The Pentecostal power, the Pentecostal
power!
The power they had at Pen – te – cost.
