2015 - Grow in Wisdom, How? – Manna by Dorothy Callies
Psalm 119:105 NTL “Your Word is a lamp
for my feet and a light for my path.”
Question: How
does one gain or grow in wisdom? I would like to share some insights from God’s
Word in the Old Testament and in the New Testament.
Psalm
119:96-106 NLT, “Even perfection has its limits, but Your commands have no
limit. Oh, how I love Your law? I think about it all day long. Your commands
makes me wiser than my enemies, for your commands are my constant guide.
(V.96-98)
“Yes, I
have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your decrees
(an order or decision given by one in authority). I am even wiser than my
elders, for I have kept Your commandments. I have refused to walk on any path
of evil, that I may remain obedient to Your word. (V.99-101)
How sweet are Your
words to my taste; they are sweeter than honey. Your commandments give me
understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life. Your word is a lamp
for my feet and a light for my path. I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise
again: I will obey Your wonderful laws.” (V.102-106)
Even in
Psalm 119:98 in KJV says, “Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser
than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.” Through our devotion to God’s
Word we learn to see life as God sees it, value what He values, and love what He
loves. You grow in wisdom through prayers and fellowship with your heavenly
Father.
The Old
Testament speaks of wisdom in obedience to His Words. In the New Testament,
Peter said, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ …” (2Pet.3:18 NCV). Knowledge is wisdom, the wisdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul said, “Let the teaching of
Christ live in you richly. Use all the wisdom to teach …” (Col.3:16 NCV).
So it is a
wonderful wisdom of life we have in Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. In Him, we
have the wonderful words of life.
Song: Wonderful Words of Life
Sing them
over again to me,
Wonderful
Words of Life
Let me
more of their beauty see,
Wonderful
Words of Life;
Words of
life and beauty,
Teach me
faith and duty;
Chorus:
Beautiful
words, wonderful words,
Wonderful
words of life;
Beautiful
words, wonderful words,
Wonderful
words of life.
(Philip
Paul Bliss, Sing His Praise)
