The Love of God

Romans 5:5b “The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given unto us” (KJV).

 How do we measure God’s love toward us? The song called, “The Love of God” written by F. M. Lehman who tried to find words to express the love of God. “For we know how dearly God loves us because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love” (NLT).

 All three members of the Trinity are involved in salvation. The Father loved us so much that He sent His Son to the world that they might believe in His Son and be saved. The Father and the Son send the Holy Spirit to fill our life with love and to enable us to live by His power. With all this loving care, it should make us ponder how great God’s love is toward us.

Song: The Love of God by F.M. Lehman
Chorus: Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

1. The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.
[ASL: can ever tell=can’t explain; pair=couple; care=trouble; erring=double wrong; reconciled=join together]

2. When hoary time shall pass away,
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall;
When men who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call;
God’s love, so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
[ASL: hoary=old time; measureless= no measure; redeeming=saving; Adam’s race=back + generation;]

3. Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made;
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
[On earth thin stem compare like a pen]
And every man a scribe by trade;
[Everyone become a writer as job]
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry,
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Tho’ stretches from sky to sky.
[ASL: parchment=paper; (sky made of paper); stalk=thin stem; quill=pen;]

This was Tony's favorite song who tried to explain what God’s love is like. Sometimes you would need to explain the meaning of the words before a person could sing this song.

So God bless you today!
