1 Peter 2:2-3
KJV: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the lord is gracious.
NCV: As newborn babies want milk, you should want the pure and simple teaching. By it you can grow up and be saved, because you have already examined and seen how good the Lord is.
As born-again children of God we long for and crave the pure milk of God’s Word in our life. God’s Word has the power to give new life. Peter testifies that we are born again “by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever” [1 Peter 1:23; 2 Tim. 3:15; James 1:18]. It is for this reason that Jesus Himself is called “the Word of life” [1 John 1:1].
God’s Word releases grace, power, and revelation by which we as believers grow in faith and in our commitment to Jesus Christ. Isaiah uses a powerful picture: just as water from the sky causes things to grow physically, so also the word that proceeds out of the mouth of God causes us to grow spiritually [Isaiah 55:10-11]. Peter pictured the same thought when he writes that by drinking the pure milk of the word of God, we grow in our salvation [1 Peter 2:2]. A sure sign of our spiritual growth is a strong desire to feed on the living and abiding Word of God.
