08-14 March 2016 - Higher Than the
Mountain – by Dorothy Callies
Deut. 4:31 “For the Lord thy God is a
merciful God; He will not forsake thee …”
Isaiah 49:13 “Sing, O heavens; and be
joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath
comforted His people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.”
I came across the song, called “Higher
Than the Mountain” written by Haldor Lillenas. I just simply like
the words in chorus, but it took me quite awhile to figure out what this chorus really meant. I study the
words carefully and came up with these questions that helps me to realize that it was all
about comparing His mercy with something. The writer of the song tried to compare God’s
mercy with higher than, deeper than, broader than and countless as... When I understood its meaning, I came to love the chorus and sang it often.
What is higher than the mountain? His mercy!
What is deeper than the sea? His mercy!
What is broader than the reaches of eternity? His mercy!
What is countless as the stars that high above us shine?
His mercies are all divine!
Chorus:
Higher Than the Mountain
By Haldor Lillenas,
Evangelistic Melodies 1959.
Higher than the mountain,
deeper than the sea,
Broader than the
reaches of eternity.
Countless as the stars
that high above us shine,
Are His mercies all divine.
May the Lord bless you!
Dorothy
