Matthew 6:18 “Your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”

I was doing a lot of private prayers when I was with Tony at nursing home.  When I got home, I was just wondering if God hears me. I guess I just need reassurance from God. He led to read the Daily Bread devotion with God’s Word from Matt. 6:18 and the part that says, “He hears our private prayers.”  That really inspires me. Especially after I studied on Chapter 10 from the War Room book, the postures of prayers. One of them was silence in prayer.

Using example of Hannah, when the Bible described Hannah’s prayer in anguish, "she was speaking in her heart, only her lips were moving, but her voice was not heard” (1 Samuel 1:13). No one could hear her silent prayer.  But God did.  And answered her request when she prayed for a child, Samuel.

Right now, this is an urgent prayer for Tony to increase his strength and that he has to been trained how to get up from the floor to the seat before he could be released.  Also pray for home service to check our apartment for accessibility for Tony.

04 August 2017 - Overcome and news of Tony - Manna by Dorothy Callies

As for news of Tony, he is doing well and God is blessing him with an increase strength that he is able to walk more and more very slowly.  

There are few words of encouragement that blessed me to hear the words of Jesus Christ when He said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have troubles; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).   

There’s up and downs time with Tony, and that’s why the words of Jesus are so reassuring that Tony and I can have peace through a relationship with Jesus. Jesus has secured our ultimate victory. Ultimate victory means that we will have our final victory when there are obstacles to overcome.  Obstacles means something that gets in the way of progress or achievement. 

I would appreciate your marathon prayer to where there are obstacles for Tony to face and to overcome his difficulties. August 9^th would be 120 days that he hasn’t been home yet since April 11, 2017.  His broken upper arm is what cause the delay from April 13 to June 13^th, but now he could almost fully use his right arm to where he is able to use both of his hands on the walker to walk.  That is quite an achievement for Tony. So thank you for your continuing prayers.

Be Devoted and News of Tony 7/30

30 July 2017 - Be Devoted – Devotion by Dorothy Callies  (Name add to:  52. Randy and Marti Callies, Tony's brother).

News of Tony:  This Sunday morning, the deaf will meet with Tony visitation and devotion time. The driver will come at 10:50 a.m. to take him into the mobility van to Logan Restaurant so Tony could enjoy the nice change and join with us for lunch and back to BLM Rehab and pay $50.00 to the driver. Last July 23 on Sunday noon, with permission to take Tony out in his wheelchair (for safety), David and I would “wheel” Tony to a half block to Tony’s Diners which is close to Blm Rehab. It was great and it means a lot to Tony.

Acts 1:14 “. . . all with one mind . . . continually devoting themselves to prayer.”

A deep devotion to prayer was always connected to the success of the New Testament church.  Before the Holy Spirit came down in power of Pentecost, the followers of Christ were “all with one mind . . . continually devoting themselves to prayer” (Acts 1:14). The word devote carries the idea of insisting on something and clinging to it.  It’s the picture of a soldier staying close to his commanding officer.  Faithful. Steadfast. Loyal. Standing guard.

After God’s Spirit fell upon them, leading to thousands being saved, the believers were again, “continually devoting themselves” to prayer, among other things (Acts 2:42).  Even when problems arose in the church, such as the widows feeling neglected, the apostles quickly delegated the responsibility to qualified deacons, adding, “But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:4).

They just kept sticking to it.  This same priority was instilled in the new churches that were being started, and it remains God’s Word for us today in our lives and in our churches.  “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love . . . rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer” (Rom. 12:10, 12).  “Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving, praying at the same time for us as well” (Col. 4:2-4).   [Some part of chapter 3, The Priority of Prayer are quoted from “The Battle Plan for Prayer” by Stephen & Alex Kendrick.]

Dorothy: “Be devoted” really hit a “home run” for me, personally. God helped me to realize the value of devoting my time to prayer. I confess: I had become weary because my thought was, “What’s good is it if there isn’t any instant healing as I would have like to see it happen?”  After reading chapter 3, the part about “Be Devoted”, I realized that God is encouraging me to continue devoting myself to prayer.

Acts 2:42 impressed me that “they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching . . .” (Translation from KJV quoted, “they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine . . .)  From this I understood the value of apostles’ writing the New Testament Bible that we continue to study from apostles’ teaching the Word of God.

On introduction part of the book, it asked to write down your biggest needs so in my Journal #2, I wrote some, but I ended up with 16 lists of needs including other’s needs. But somehow I wasn’t satisfied.  So I asked God, “What is Your dream for us?” I received a startled answer: “Tony is a brand new man!” I wrote down Tony’s complete healing as a priority, but what God spoke to my inner spirit, seems a different prospective in my mind. It threw me off.

Then Holy Spirit brought up 2 Cor. 5:17 “… if any man be in Christ, he is a NEW creature (a new person): old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.” I said to myself, “Oh ye of little faith” because to me complete healing means a big improvement for Tony.  BUT God’s view was different than my view on healing basis. As Isaiah quoted on 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts . . .” God’s thought is not the same as my thought.  I thank God for stirring up my heart and revived me.  He is a faithful God who cares enough to lead me to read the “War Room” book and stirred up my spirit.

Reviving Prayer Faith 7/29 Names

29 July 2017 - Reviving Prayer Faith by Dorothy Callies

On July 27^th Thursday morning, two therapists helped Tony to four steps stairs and down. I was so surprised. I spoke to myself, “O ye of little faith.” On July 28^th, I felt like I was missing something so I asked the Lord, “What am I missing?” Then thought to me, ‘The War Room’ book. So I found the book and start reading to refresh my spirit what prayer could do. Here’s a few that inspired me.

Chapter 2, The Power of Prayer: Story about wars, a defensive strategy. Digging in and climbing down into trenches was the standard of method of survival but it was an endless fighting. Until . . . the tank.  Instead of sitting in the trenches or defensive turned to offensive meaning they marched forward with the tanks and won the battle. The idea came from the Great Britain, under Winston Churchill, developed the first military tank in history . . .”

Prayer is our armored tank. And when put into action by God’s people, “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18 KJV) Prayer is our major assault weapon in the battle.  For Paul, “Pray at all times in the Spirit,” (Eph. 6:18). Prayer, to him, was a forward moving force, A BATTERING RAM that powered him ahead in pursuit of God’s will. So prayer is our battering ram. So I used ASL: Fist thrust forward. It’s powerful!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to thank You that You are reviving my praying faith, rely completely on You, and go into battle with You. Guide me, I pray, as I trust You more. Train me.  Equip me.  Make me a mighty warrior in prayer.  Be glorified through me as I trust in You.  In Jesus’ name. Amen!

25 July 2017 – Updated Prayer Marathon for Tony Callies

Continue to pray for miracle of Tony: According to his Orthro Doctor, Tony needs to be out of the wheelchair, and start using the walker 100% of the time before he could go home.  Tony needs full strength in his right shoulder, right arm, right hand, and his right hip.  We claim God’s promise on Isaiah 40:29, “He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might, He increases strength.” Our prayer is that God would give Tony the strength to be healed completely in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Our Eyes are on You 7/23

23 July 2017 - Our Eyes are on You – Manna by Dorothy Callies

2 Chronicles 20:12 “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”

I asked God for personal devotion from Daily Bread this afternoon. I happened to see this title that inspired me.  Maybe I felt like I didn’t know what to do about the situation when we had to stop thinking about pressing “when can Tony come home.”  As I read the article, I was inspired by the story of Jehoshaphat, the King who was terrified of a vast army who was coming against him from Edom. Jehoshaphat turned to God because he knew about God’s supremacy, His authority and His power. The King prayed, “We do not what to do, but our eyes are on You.”

Then the King was inspired to choose singers to lead the army into battle.  Instead of a war cry, they sang of God’s love. When they arrived, they were surprised to see that their enemies had turned on each other.  In the end, “The kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at peace, for God had given him rest on every side.” [Reference: 2 Chron. 20:1-30]

Dorothy: What does this mean to me? I started to praise Him. I realized “God dwells in the hearts of praise.” So I prayed, “help me God to focus on praising You, sing to You and allow the Holy Spirit to speak through songs and tongues just like singers who sang of God’s love. Thank You for such uplifting Spirit in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Amen.

Just want to share this with you as I kept my Journal #2 to remind me of God’s new mercy every morning. God’s new grace every day. God’s new love every evening. Also I want to thank Marilyn Vickers for sharing this song with me. Something to start with.
