Galatians 3:13a,14 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law ... That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."
This song, "Redeemed" reminds me of Maxine Strodebridge, the former teacher of Central Bible College, Springfield, Missouri in 1960’s. This was her favorite song and I have heard her sang it in sign language so many times that her face glow with the Glory of God on her. She also was the National Deaf Representative of Assembly of God. She was at our wedding in 1967 and at the Los Angles Airport, we watched her flew out to become a missionary to Korea under the work of Betty Haney. She worked for the government and that gave Maxine and Betty the privileges of starting the Deaf Ministry among Korean Deaf. Today there are many Deaf Churches in Korea. I like to share the favorite song of Maxine. She was my mentor during my teen and college years.

Broken Heart
Part 2 of Sept 27th "He Keeps Me Singing."
Psalm 51:17 NIV “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God You will not despise.”
What is the closest thing in a relationship that God is looking for? A broken heart draws us closer to Him. After reading Luther Bridgers’ story, I couldn’t describe the deep feeling in my heart what Luther had lost; his wife and his three sons. And still he wrote a song out of his broken heart. So this morning I choose a few of the translations from Psalm 51:17.
The sacrifices of God is a troubled spirit—PBV.
The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit—RSV.
Here, O God, is my sacrifice, a broken spirit—Knox.
A heart—broken and crushed O God thou wilt not despise—Rhm.
A broken and sorrowing heart, O God, you will not put from you—Bas.
You will not scorn this crushed and broken heart—Jerus.
Is your spirit troubled? God wants you. Is your heart broken? God wants you. Are you crushed? God wants you. He will not turn away from you. It is the closest thing that draws God to you. He has a chance to comfort you. He has a chance to reveal His deep love to you. He will not look down at you. He will not make fun of you. He will lift you up and put His arms around you. He will hold you so very close to His own heart.
On the fourth line, words that Luther Bridgers wrote to describe his feeling in a song, He Keeps Me Singing.
“Though sometimes He leads through waters deep,
Trials fall across the way,
Though sometimes the path seems rough and steep,
See His footprints all the way.
Chorus: Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Sweetest Name I know,
Fills my every longing, Keeps me singing as I go.”
Now that I know how the song was created, I have come to love this song even more. God will give you a song in your heart and bring you closer to Him.

He Keeps Me Singing

As I was driving to work, this spontaneous memory song (chorus and 5th line came to me last Saturday morning on Sept. 25th. I really sang this song out loud (off key maybe), but it felt so good and I had more energy at the end of the day. I was looking for Bible verse to match the song, but I couldn’t find the right one. Thought came to me. How old was the song? Why was the song written? I began searching and found this song with verse from “Then Sings My Soul,” by Robert J. Morgan who wrote 150 of the World’s Greatest Hymn Stories. I am summarizing the story of Luther Bridgers.
Luther Bridgers grew up in North Carolina and he began preaching at age seventeen while attending Asbury College in Kentucky. He had a wonderful wife and three precious boys. In 1910, Luther, age 26, took his family to stay at his wife’s parents while Luther was going on a preaching trip alone. One evening a nearby neighbor, was not able to sleep, rose in the night and looked out his window. He saw the flames, ran across the field, he gave the alarm, but the house was already on fire. Luther’s in-laws and he escaped the fire. Luther tried to re-enter the house, but his neighbors had to restrain him since the house was already collapsing from the flames. Luther was overwhelmed with grief at the lost of his wife and his three sons. It took him a long time to recover from his depression and he remembered the Bible’s promise of “songs in the night.” Several months later, he wrote both words and music. God gave Luther Bridgers the ability to keep singing. In 1914, Luther married again and resumed his ministry until he passed away in Atlanta in 1948.
After reading this story, I felt a little shocked how the song was written. It was not something exciting. It was something tragedy and how God helped him. This is something to think about if you are going through something. May God help us to have courage, “He keeps me singing.”

Most Blessed
Jeremiah 17:7 Amplified
“[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.”
Ever wonder what our lives would be like when we place (put) COMPLETE TRUST IN GOD? Jeremiah 17:8 tells us the answer: “For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care (problems) in the year of drought, nor shall it cease (stop) yielding fruit” (Amplified). (Reference: Psalm 1:2-3)
I found the new song called, “There Is a River.”
There is a river that flows from deep within;
There is a fountain that frees the soul from sin.
Come to the waters: There is a vast supply;
There is a river that never shall run dry.

Faith Power
Ephesians 1:19, 20
"This is my prayer . . . that you may . . . realize how . . . tremendous is the power available to us who believe in God" (Phillips).
My exercise prayer to God: When I stand up on the inside and I start believing God, the power of God flows into my body and the power of God causes miracles to happen.
I know that God is power. Power that is in my mind and soul, which flows outward through my thinking, my spirit, my actions, and my surroundings.
I pray by faith that the power of God has already flowed out. The power of God in me will bring harvest and meet my needs today in Jesus' name. Amen.
Remember 9/22/10's devotion? This is like a cow chewing its cud if you need healing today. I do!
So trust God's Word today!

Keep Muttering
Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, and but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have a good success.”
The key to God’s promise of success to Joshua was to KEEP MUTTERING the Word of God. The Biblical meaning of mediation is to speak to oneself [Wilson’s Word Studies], to speak out loud, or mutter.
The word to meditate is pictured as a cow chewing its cud. The cow swallows its food then brings it up again, chews it some more and brings it up again until the cow absorbs all the nutrients from the cud. In the same way, we are to “chew” on the Word of God until we absorb the divine energy and life in the Word of God.
It is not enough just to memorize the Word of God. The Word of God has to become a living part of who we are, what we think, and how we act. Picture the Word being part of your success in your life.
Prayer: To keep muttering means “we rested in His anointing and remembered the word of Isaiah which says, “Surely He has borne all my pains.” Lord, You took our pains two thousand years ago. We pray right now that we will experience Your work at Calvary this very moment, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
