As the Scripture has Said Part 2

Deuteronomy 18:15 ncv Moses said:
“The Lord your God will give you a prophet like me, who is one of your own people. Listen to him (future Jesus).”

This is one of the references that Jesus was quoting, “the Scripture” that the prophecy of Moses was fulfilled when Jesus stood near the great altar where the water was poured out and Jesus’ voice rang out: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink” (John 7:37).

Isaiah 58:11 ncv
“The Lord will always lead you. He will satisfy your needs in dry lands and give strength to your bones. you will be like a garden that has much water, like a spring that never runs dry.”

This is another reference that the prophecy was fulfilled on the day of Pentecostal, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit after so many years later. Those filled with Holy Spirit are “like a garden that has much water, like a spring that never runs dry.” Being filled with Holy Spirit at all times will never runs dry. That is awesome!

Jesus must had read or studied the Old Testament Scrolls to be able to say, “As the Scripture has said.” I am sure there are more, but this is an example of what Jesus was referring to. Searching the Scripture helps us to know what Jesus was talking about.

So trust Jesus as a Living Water to meet our need today!

As the Scripture has Said

John 7:38
He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” Bread Box Aug 9 2010

As the Scripture has said: The reference is not to a single passage (verse), but to the general emphasis of such passages as Deut.18:15; Is.58:11; Zech.14:8; (see also Num.24:7). In contrast (compare) to the small amount of water poured out each day during the feast, this is what caused Jesus to speak up as He, Himself was the “Living Water.” Jesus also spoke of the future that there would be a river of water coming out of those who believed in Christ. Not only will they be satisfied themselves, but they also become rivers so that others may drink and be satisfied (v.39).

This prophecy was fulfilled when the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecostal and 120 disciples were filled like rivers of living water. They “experienced” His overflow life inside of them. They felt Jesus and out of their heart, the Spirit, like rivers flow into thousands of people who opened their hearts to Jesus when Peter stood up to preach.

This is how much God so loved you so let Him fill you with His Presence. So trust God today!

The Last Day of the Feast

John 7:37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.”

At Dunkin Donut Coffee shop few days ago, we discussed the verse I was working on. Tony asked me this question: What cause Jesus to talk about the “water?” It was on the great day of the feast which lasted several days. On each day of the feast, the people came with palm branches and marched around the great altar. A priest took a golden pitcher and filled with water from the Pool of Siloam, carried it to the temple, and poured it on the altar as an offering to God. This dramatic ceremony was a memorial of the water that flowed from the rock when the Israelites traveled through the wilderness. On the last day of the feast, the people marched seven times around the altar in memory of Jericho march. When the priest was pouring water on the altar, Jesus’ voice rang out: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.”

It was that moment Jesus used the “visual aid” of the water during the feast to reveal Himself that He is the One God had given them a future symbol, “ The Living Water, His Son.” On the last day of the Feast, Jesus revealed Himself as the “Rock” and He Himself provided the water to the thirsty people.

Are you thirsty? Come to Jesus. He is the Living Water …

So trust Jesus today!

Hunger and Thirsty

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
for they shall be filled." Matt.5:6nkjv

The born-again Christians who continue hunger and thirst
for the things of God will be able to grow in faith
spiritually. Hunger and thirst after His Presence, and the
Word of God, the Bible that tells us many things we have yet
to learn or need to be reminded that God is still our God.

Don't we need to know what will destroy our hunger and thirst
for the things of God? Here are the warning signs: too much
worries; deceit of riches (lottery); desires of wanting too
many things; too much pleasures if God is left out completely;
fail to keep in touch with Christ.

If our hunger and thirst for God and His righteousness are
destroyed, we will die spiritually. For this reason, it is
important to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's checking on
us, making sure we stay in union with Christ.

So trust God today!

If You Knew

John 4:14a Jesus said, “Whoever drinks of the water
that I shall give him (you) will never thirst.” nkjv

Story of Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well are
found in the chapter four of John. Jesus asked her for
a drink of water. The Samaritan woman was surprised that
He as a Jew was not afraid to talk to a mix race person
like her. From John 4:10, Jesus said to her, “If you knew
the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me
a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have
given you living water.”

Somehow the words from Jesus touched me: “If you knew who
I am, you would have asked Me and I would have given you
the living water.”

Prayer: Oh, Jesus I pray that if only we know who You are,
the Bread of Life and the Living Water because You are the
only One that satisfies our spiritual hunger and fills our
thirsty souls in Your precious name, Jesus!

Dorothy: In the early morning, I struggled with this devotion
and put it on hold and gave it a time to think it through. I
helped Tony with kitchen packing in boxes so the Pest Control
man would come and spray the bugs. I sat down to rest and read
again and I saw something else that impressed me, Jesus said,
"If you knew." He means we can find the answer to our problems
"if you knew what Jesus can do for you."

Bread of Life

Then they said to Him, "What shall we do, that
we may work the works of God?" John 6:28 nkjv

Yesterday, we talk about Jesus, the Bread of Life and if
we are still not satisfied then ask Him what are we missing.
Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God,
that you believe in Him whom He sent." John 6:29

Guess what? The people were not satisfied with just believing
that God sent His Son to them. "What sign will You perform
then, that we may see it and believe You?" (John 6:30 nkjv)

Jesus said, "I am the Bread of Life." They said, "Give us
this bread always." The sign they want were breads they ate
and were filled in their stomach. Jesus told them already,
"Do not labor for the food which perishes" (John 6:27).

Did you noticed from chapter 6 of John, how many times Jesus
said, "I am the Bread of Life?" When the people didn't get it,
Jesus finally said, "Eat My flesh." They went "eewww" eat His
flesh? They didn't understand enough to accept Him as their
Bread, "the food which endures to everlasting life" (John 6:27b).

Stop here. Think. People were stubborn. Now let us make
sure we are not stubborn like them. Jesus spoke to my heart,
"Believe, just believe in Me. Believe and trust My Words."
So let's continue to believe His Word! If you need healing,
hold on to His Word of promise!

I Am The Bread

Jesus said: “I am the bread of life: he (you)
that cometh to Me shall never hunger.”
John 6:35b nkjv Bread Box 8/2/10

From the story of John chapter 6, Christ had
fed 5,000 people because they were hungry. They
were at the hills where Jesus was speaking to
them. They thought they had found another “Moses”
who would give them daily “manna” just like Moses’
time when people ate manna for 40 years. They were
looking for free daily bread. Why? Because they saw
Jesus fed 5,000 people with bread and fish. So they
thought, ‘why not Jesus feed us every day.’

In this story, Jesus struggled to tell them that He
was the Messiah, the Manna whom the Father has sent
to them. Did He succeeded? No, many left Him because
they were not satisfied with Him.

This is something to think about. Do you ever felt
like you are not always satisfied? Do you think Jesus
tried to tell us this: “I am the Bread of Life: you that
come to Me shall never hunger.” He meant we should
be satisfied, but if we are not satisfied then ...

Let’s ask Him what are we missing?
