Climb Up Sunshine Mountain 3/30

 Manna from March 9-12th, Keep Climbing.

The title, ‘Keep Climbing’ brought to my memory as a child that there’s a song something like climb up sunshine mountain . . . [Thank to Dean Hardy of Canada send me this. I've been singing quite often.]

Hey Dorothy, the kids’ song you remembered is . . .

Climb, Climb Up Sunshine Mountain . . .
We sang it often with our kids
(still do sometimes even tho' they're grown up).

     Climb, climb up sunshine mountain
     Heavenly breezes blow.
     Climb, climb up sunshine mountain
     Faces all aglow.
     Turn, turn from sin and doubting,
     Look to God on High
     Climb, climb up sunshine mountain
     You and I.

Thanks for faithfully sharing the encouraging
exhortations of the Word of God with us.

Blessings & grace, Dean

The Cross Before Me 3/29 Special

29 March 2017 - The Cross Before Me – Special Manna by Dorothy Callies

Inspiration song came to me: “the world behind me, the cross before me, the world behind me, the cross before me, the world behind me, the cross before me—No turning back, no turning back! [by Norman Johnson].

2 Corinthians 13:4 KJV “For though He was crucified through weakness, yet He liveth by the power of God.  For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.”

Dorothy: What does this verse mean to me?  During the time I was battling with the weakness when I was taking steroid for my bronchitis/spasm lungs. It means my lungs went out of air.  Taking the steroid medicine and inhaler helps me to breathe easily.  Inspiration came to me: “In my weakness, God is glorified” (2 Cor. 12:9).  My question was how can God be glorified in my weakness?

First, I visualize what Christ went through on the cross through 2 Corinthians 13:4.  Interpretation seems clear with NCV: “It is true that He was weak when He was killed on the cross, but He lives now by God’s power.  It is true that we are weak in Christ, but for you we will be alive in Christ by God’s power.” So it is through Christ’s weakness, we are made strong.

Secondly, I read what Paul said about 2 Corinthians 12:9 and 10 in NCV.  God spoke to Paul, “My grace is enough for you.  When you are weak, My power is made perfect in you.” So Paul said, “So I am very happy to brag about my weaknesses.  Then Christ’s power can live in me. Verse 10: For this reason I am happy when I have weaknesses insults, hard times, sufferings, and all kinds of troubles for Christ.  Because when I am weak, then I am truly strong.”

In KJV, God said to Paul, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” So God’s strength is made perfect in time of my weakness.  So Paul went on to explain about his weakness. Paul said, “Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities (weakness), that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Glory in weakness? I looked up the meaning of the word, glory. It means praise, honor and thanksgiving. 2: great beauty: Splendor means bliss (complete happiness) of heaven. In another word, do you want a “taste of heaven?”  When I am weak, God’s strength rest in me. That is a bliss of heaven. Wow! So Paul understood this and said, “I will glory in my weakness.”  It means Paul was in ‘heavenly bliss’ when he felt weak.

So now I understood why Holy Spirit inspired me: “In my weakness, God is glorified.” In my weakness, God’s presence is here. In my weakness, heaven is right here.”  So once again I sang this part that came from “I have Decided to Follow Jesus.”
                        The world behind me, the cross before me,
                        The world behind me, the cross before me,
                        The world behind me, the cross before me—
                        No turning back, no turning back.

May the Lord bless you today!

Let It Breathe 3/22 Special Edition

22 March 2017 Let It Breathe – Special Edition by Dorothy Callies

Today, I was reading a devotion that happened to be about the breathtaking. It brought to my attention that since March 10th, I had trouble with shortage of breathe that led me to ER on March 12th and again on 13th.  It was so serious that I had to use steroid inhaler for whole week just to get my both lungs open so I could just breathe through my airway.  It has been twelve days of struggling to be able to breathe.

Starting today, I was able to breathe slowly. The devotion caught my attention about how valuable it was for us to breathe. *Eating, sleeping, and breathing seem “ordinary” in that we do them every day, usually without much thought. But they are not ordinary at all. Every bite and every breath are miracles. [*Quoted from Our Daily Bread]

I looked up the references on breath and surprisely, I learned something.  Job 27:3 “All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils.” Job 33:4 “The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.”

These Scriptures reminds me of how God made Adam in Genesis 2:7, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Two things inspired me in the last 12 days of my struggles:
Firstly, I was really weak for days. Then inspiration came, “In my weakness, God is glorified” (2 Cor. 12:9). This is beyond me. I meant how can I really understand this? Until I read 2 Cor. 13:4 that Christ’s weakness was crucifixion yet He lived by the power of God. We are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him [How?] by the power of God.

Secondly, every breath is a miracle. It made me realize that the breath of the Almighty hath given me life to live. Job suffered and struggled day by day until he realized and quoted, “the spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” As for me, today, the breath of the Almighty has given me life to live. So the song that I remembered so well came to me to sing this.

Song: Let It Breathe on Me
Let it breathe on me,
Let it breathe on me,
Let the breath of God now breathe on me.
Let it breathe on me,
Let it breathe on me,
Let the breath of God now breathe on me.
(Inspiring Choruses)

May God bless you!

Dorothy

PS. Thank you so much for your prayers. I cherished the connections of your prayers according to Romans 12:5 “We, being many, are one body in Christ …”

Keep Climbing 3/9-12

09-12 March 2017 - Keep Climbing – Manna by Dorothy Callies

Heb. 3:13 KJV, “Exhort one another daily …” NCV, “Encourage each other every day ...”

Richard needed a push, and he got one. He was rocking climbing with his friend Kevin who was the belayer (the one who secures the rope). Exhausted and ready to quit, Richard asked Kevin to lower him to the ground.

But Kevin urged him on, saying he had come too far to quit. Dangling (hang loosely with a swinging motion) in midair, Richard decided to keep trying. Amazingly, he was able to reconnect (to start again & join) with the rock and complete the climb because of his friend’s encouragement. (Written by Marvin Williams, Our Daily Bread). (The meaning of the words in italic by Dorothy Callies).

Dorothy: To understand why the Bible quoted “to exhort one another daily,” it was because they didn’t have the New Testament Bible yet to start with. They depend on the disciples who remembered the Word of Jesus to share with them. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would bring all the remembrance whatsoever Jesus have said to them (John 14:26). The followers of Jesus depend on each other daily for encouragement to continue to follow their Lord.

During that time between 50 A.D. through 90 A.D. several followers of Jesus were writing the gospels, and letters to encourage the Christians throughout Asia. One example: During 60-63 A.D. Peter wrote two letters to “strangers scattered” throughout the Roman provinces of Asia Minor. Who were they?

Many of them have been saved under the preaching of Peter on the Day of Pentecost when they came from several different nations to celebrate the Passover at Jerusalem. They returned home with their newfound faith (Acts 2:6-11). So Peter wrote letters to encourage them to stay true to the Lord. They depend on Peter’s letter to read often to them to keep their faith in Christ.

Today, we have many resources such as The Deaf Mission offered visual ASL translations from the Bible. Deaf Video Communication through internet offered several visual persons who signs several devotions to watch and to receive daily encouragement from the Word of God or stories.

The title, ‘Keep Climbing’ brought to my memory as a child that there’s a song something like climb up sunshine mountain . . . And I found only one song from the old book that seems really interesting that the writer of the song was able to do this.

My friends, if you ever felt discouraged and ready to give up, I say to you, “Keep climbing” just like Kevin who encouraged his friend, Richard who were ‘dangling’ in the midair to reconnect to the rock and finished the climbing. Maybe you felt like that . . . ‘dangling’ in time of troubles and I encourage you to try to reconnect to that Rock of Jesus and you keep climbing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen? Amen!

Song: Climbing Up the Hills of God
(Lyrics: Haldor Lillenas, Melodies of Praise)
To the sunlit highlands I am climbing,
Far above the lowlands and shadow drear,
Where the golden bells of faith are chiming,
And the song of victory I hear.
Chorus:
I am climb – ing, I am climb – ing,
Washed in the Savior’s precious blood.
I am climb – ing, I am climb – ing,
Climbing up the hills of God.

Lifted up above all doubt and fearing,
To the realms of confidence and trust in God;
Looking forward to the Lord’s appearing,
Walking in the paths our fathers trod.
Chorus:
I am climb – ing, I am climb – ing,
Washed in the Savior’s precious blood.
I am climb – ing, I am climb – ing.
Climbing up the hills of God.

Word meaning or signing:
Climbing= going up
Shadow= dark
Drear=depress
Chiming=sounding
Realms=kingdom
Confidence=promise

Harvest Home 3/5-8

05-08 March 2017 - Harvest Home – Manna by Dorothy Callies

James 5:8 “You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.”

You also be patient . . .   Whoa! Who wants to be patient? James did! Did you know that James was the half-brother of Jesus? James had been with Jesus, his half-brother all his life. James was one of the half-brother who had doubted that Jesus was truly the Messiah. James saw his half-brother, Jesus on the cross.  James just can’t believe that Jesus bore all that suffering from stripes and being nailed to the cross.

James saw that Jesus was very patient until Jesus said, “It is finished.”  James saw Jesus being alive from the dead.  James saw his half-brother went up to heaven.  James was there on the Day of Pentecost and James was filled with Holy Spirit.

Finally, James was convinced how important it is to be patient in time of suffering. So James encouraged us and wrote, “You also be patient!” So how do I get to be patient?  James encouraged us to establish your hearts . . .

Establish your hearts . . .   It means you are to take control of what is going on in your hearts . . .   Sometime we tends to complain or gripe about problems, troubles, etc.  The root problem is the heart where the emotion area tends to get out of hand. So James encouraged us to be firm and be strong.  And don’t allow your heart loses its patience.

For the coming of the Lord is at hand  . . .    It means Jesus could come anytime. Just be ready like a farmer who waits for the precious fruit of the earth and has long patience for it.  Also James wrote in verse 7, “Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord.”  We will soon “harvest home” and it would be well worth it.

Song: We’ll Work Till Jesus Comes
(Lyrics: Elizabeth Mills, Sing His Praise)
 O land of rest, for thee I sigh!
When will the moment come?
When I shall lay my armor by
And dwell in peace at home?
Chorus:
We’ll work till Jesus comes,
We’ll work till Jesus comes,
We’ll work till Jesus comes,
And we’ll be gathered home.

Jesus said, “Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. In this world you have been facing a lot of troubles, but I have spoken to you that in Me you can have peace. Yes, I say unto you, do not let your heart be troubled, and do not let yourself become afraid. This peace I am giving to you right now.  Let your hearts be at peace in My name!  Yes, in Jesus’ name. I say, Amen!”  [Ref: John 16:33; John 14:27]

Dorothy: Wow! Thank You, Jesus! Amen! We need to really ‘hear’ that! We love You!

Thy Loving Kindness 3/1-4

1-4 March 2017 - Thy Loving Kindness – Manna by Dorothy Callies

Psalm 103:4 “[The Lord] redeems your life from destruction, [The Lord] crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies.” (NKJV)

The Lord redeems our lives from destruction . . . The Lord gave us a new change for better life by living for Him. Our lives would be destroyed if the Lord has not protected us from time to time. The Lord does not allow the world to influence us that would destroy our lives.  It shows that He does cares. He wants to protect you. He loves you.

The Lord crowns you . . . The Lord rewards you.  The Lord put you in a very high position and honor you with His great love, with His great kindness, with His tender mercies . . . Could you imagine how He clothes you with loving kindness . . .

This verse makes me think of a song called, “Thy Loving Kindness.” Life alone isn’t worth living, but with God’s loving kindness, it makes our lives so much better. Our everyday lives sometimes felt like “blah,” but when God honors you with His love, His kindness, His tenderness and His mercies  . . . oh . . . just let Him crown you . . . when you sing this song . . .  God bless you . . .

Song: Thy Loving Kindness

1. Thy loving kindness is better than life.
Thy loving kindness is better than life.
My lips shall praise Thee:
Thus shall I bless Thee.
I will lift up my hands unto the Lord.

2. I lift up my hands unto the Lord.
I lift up my hands unto the Lord.
My lips shall praise Thee:
Thus shall I bless Thee.
I will lift up my hands unto the Lord.

3. I lift up my voice (sign) unto the Lord.
I lift up my voice (sign) unto the Lord.
My lips shall praise Thee:
Thus shall I bless Thee.
I will lift up my voice (sign) unto the Lord.

4. I lift up my heart unto the Lord.
I lift up my heart unto the Lord.
My lips shall praise Thee:
Thus shall I bless Thee.
I will lift up my heart unto the Lord.
